Job Description
Job Title:
Development Worker
Responsible to:
Senior Development Worker / Operational Manager
Main Purpose of Job:
Provision of training, advice, and support to volunteers
and young people as part of Move On’s Housing
Education Service, aiming to reduce levels of
homelessness among young people.
Hours:
35 hours per week, to be worked flexibly, to include
office hours (Monday to Friday 9am–5pm) regular
evenings and some weekends may also be required.
This will include participation in the on-call safety
phone rota.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:

Have a clear understanding of the activities, policies and procedures within all
services.

Attendance at team meetings.

Involvement in the recruitment, training and support of volunteers including
volunteer peer educators, volunteer befrienders and volunteer mentors,
ensuring a positive and supportive volunteering experience.

Establish and supervise ‘Matches’ between service users and Volunteers.

Preparation and delivery of group work and training

Establish good external relations and develop links with statutory and
voluntary organisations in order to promote and develop all of Move On’s
services.

Have an understanding of both the complexity of the situations facing young
people who are, or have been in care and those have affected by
homelessness and potential solutions and routes out of homelessness.

Managing the safety phone rota, and ensuring that staff adhere to Move On’s
lone working policies at all times.

Undertake any other duties or tasks which may be reasonably considered
within the remit of the post.

Supervision and support of sessional workers, volunteers, and students as
requested by the Operational Manager.

Undertake written reports and other monitoring, recording and evaluation as
directed by the Operational Manager.
Creativity

Shaping and delivering services, able to provide a flexible response to the
changing needs and circumstances of vulnerable young and homeless people.

To support and manage volunteers to play a positive role, imparting valuable
information and experiences to young and/or homeless people to aid their
transition towards independence and employment.

To work alongside the Senior Development Worker and Operational Manager
to generate and implement ideas for improving service delivery and achieving
outcomes.

To understand and work within the ethos of ‘helping people to help
themselves’
