Special Character focus:
Discipleship – When is it hard to be a disciple of Jesus?
Dear Jesus, to be a true disciple means to humble ourselves and serve others. Jesus, you say we achieve
greatness only through serving our neighbour. Help us do what we can to help others. Open our eyes to
everyone around us so we might be called your disciples. Amen
Scripture Quote: Matthew 10:5 -11 This scripture is about Jesus sending out his twelve disciples to go to
the ‘lost sheep’ of Israel, proclaim the good news, cure the sick, raise the dead and cast out demons.
Prayer Intentions: For Shelby & Sharneica’s grandmother, Mia’s grandmother and for all of those who have
been affected by yesterday’s earthquake in Italy.
Principal’s Message:
This week is the last week of soccer for our school. I would like to thank all the parents who’ve given up their
Saturday mornings to coach, manage and referee games. A thank you also to our players for their efforts this
year. Playing sport provides so many opportunities for our children to develop life skills and the key
competencies of our NZ curriculum – participating & contributing, thinking, relating to others & managing self.
Our next major event on our school calendar is the annual South Waikato Culture Fest. This will be held in
Putaruru at the Plaza on Saturday 3rd September. This is a full school event and an opportunity for us to
showcase our talent. Please let school staff know ASAP if your child can’t make it… we won’t be happy about it
but it’s best to know now so that we can make arrangements for our performance items.
Noho Marae – Tuesday 30th August @ Pikitu Marae, Wiltsdown RoAd, Te Waotu
Some of you may remember from last year that we had a noho marae at Papa O Te Aroha Marae. This provided
us with an opportunity to have some intensive Culture Fest practice within the environment and kaupapa of our
neighbouring marae. During this noho the kapahaka group from St. Mary’s School in Putaruru joined us. This
year it is their turn to host us. The Marae that St. Mary’s has close connections to is Pikitu Marae in Te Waotu.
This is where we will be hosted this year. As this noho marae is out of town, and our main purpose is intensive
Culture Fest practice, we will just be taking our students aged 7 and above. The younger students will have
school as normal on Wednesday 31st August and their school based programme will include some Culture Fest
learning too. The cost of the noho will be a $2 koha per person and home baking per families. Our Board of
Trustees will pay for the meals. Parents and whanau will be welcome to join us for this noho marae.
BEGS Sports
Hello Everyone
The Tokoroa Junior Soccer season will end this Saturday, 27th August, with a final round of games and
then prize giving. In order to accommodate prize giving the start times of some games are different to
usual and there is an 8:30am start for the 8th grade.
There will be a combined prize giving for the 6th and 8th grades. This will start at 10:50am outside the
club rooms if fine or inside if wet.
There will be a combined prize giving for the 11th and Intermediate grades. This will start
at 12:30pm outside the club rooms if fine or inside if wet.
At prize giving all teams will get a team trophy, a team certificate and a bag of goodies.
Players from runners-up teams and third placed teams will each get a certificate.
Players from grade winning teams will each get a medal and a certificate.
A sausage sizzle will be available as usual.
There will be no extra time or penalty shoot-outs for place play-off games except for the grade finals.
If a grade final is a draw at full-time then there will be golden goal extra time, 7 minutes each way with no
half-time break. After this if the match is still a draw then the result will be decided by penalty shoot-out
(best of 5 then sudden death).
Although this is the end of the junior soccer season it is not the end of soccer for 2016. On 28th
October our summer soccer junior division (ages 7 to 13) will be starting. This involves 7-a-side games
at5:15pm or 6:00pm on Fridays for 8 weeks before Christmas and 8 weeks after New Year’s. Anyone can
enter a team including schools (cost $100 per team). If children do not have a team then they can register
with Tokoroa AFC for just $10 and we will find them a team with a coach/manager.
We have exciting plans for junior soccer in 2017. In later September or early October we will be holding a
planning meeting. Anyone that is interested in attending watch this space! (an email will be sent out and
information put on the Tokoroa AFC Facebook page closer to the time).
