ENGINEERING
Engineering Minds Camps are bringing curricula derived from prestigious undergraduate
engineering programs including MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech, and Cal Tech to campers in middle
and high school! These “hands-on, minds-on” camps will give campers practical experience
with engineering principles. Dr. Stephan Athan created Engineering Minds to be a high-level,
exciting, rigorous, and dynamic STEAM camp. Dr. Athan is a seasoned engineer passionate
about six relevant engineering disciplines and will personally lead each session.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Grades: (5-8) & (9-12)
What is electricity and how do people use it to their advantage? This camp covers electrical and
electronics topics from classical to quantum physics. We will look at how people have viewed the
mysteries of the electron and electricity as well as how today’s engineers put this force to use to
improve human life on earth.
COMPUTER ENGINEERING Grades: (5-8) & (9-12)
The creation of ENIAC, one of the first computers ever built, required over 18,000 vacuum tubes.
And inventions from computer engineers such as Alan Turning, who broke the German Enigma
code during WWII, have evolved dramatically. Today, computer architecture is at the heart of
the iPhone, Xbox, NVIDIA Shield, and thousands of products in medicine, aviation, automotive,
entertainment, and academia. Learn how computational devices are built including hardware,
software, algorithms, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and cyber security.
BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING Grades: (5-8) & (9-12)
Ever wonder how Tony Stark built Ironman? What about Irongirl? Learn how engineers can
extend the limits of human ability through advanced sensors, bionics, and high tech materials.
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Grades: (5-8) & (9-12)
Work on designing and building simulated structures as large as roller coasters and space
stations. Learn how manipulating new materials like microelectromechanical systems, graphene
and carbon nanotubes can create new products and improve existing ones we use every day.
AEROSPACE ENGINEERING Grades: (5-8) & (9-12)
Become a rocket scientist designing UBER flying cars, space capsules for manned flights to Mars,
and learn how SpaceX can make spacecrafts land on a floating landing pad.
ENERGY ENGINEERING Grades: (5-8) & (9-12)
The earth will have 9 billion people by 2060. How will they have enough energy to use the
things that make everyday life possible? Learn about and design renewable and nonrenewable
energy systems and how to make the most of the limited resources our earth has to offer.
BUILD A RAD CLIMBER Grades: (5-8) & (9-12)
How can 80 pounds of PVC pipe, struts, pins, and rings support over 1800 pounds of weight?
By using a RAD Climber system, students will build and explore the principles of structural
engineering. Students will take home their own RAD Climber kit including struts, pins, and rings
(www.engineeringminds.org/rad.html) at the conclusion of camp.

LANGUAGE
NE
W BONJOUR FRANÇAIS Grades: (K-2) & (3-5)
Campers will have fun learning to speak, read, and journal in French by immersing in the culture via songs,
poetry, rhymes, games, and short plays. We will practice speaking French by using the Corbett Prep campus
to learn vocabulary for sports, gardening, canoeing, and cooking. At the end of the week, parents are invited
to a “fete” (party) to partake in the celebration of French culture, as campers showcase their work. On
s’amusera!! (We will have fun!!)
NE
W BON VOYAGE EN FRANCE Grades: (K-2) & (3-5)
Come join us for a simulated trip to France! Campers will create a French passport, boarding tickets, a
purse filled with French Euros, luggage filled with French clothes, and posters of places to visit in Paris.
Campers will take an imaginary plane ride to France on a French flight. Upon arrival, campers will
engage in a “shopping spree” while conversing en français by purchasing items, asking for prices, stating
how many they want, asking for directions and ordering food. A great camp if students are considering
traveling to a francophone country.
CAMP FIESTA Grades: (K-2) & (3-8)
Viva la fiesta! This camp will spark an appreciation for diverse Latin cultures as campers dance, play games,
and create crafts, having fun learning basic Spanish vocabulary and phrases. Camp Fiesta is an exciting
and engaging introduction to the study of Español!
NE
W CHINESE PARADISE Grades: (K-3) & (4-8)
In Chinese Paradise (zhong guo le yuan), we will learn Chinese language and customs from a native
Chinese teacher. Learn a language, spoken by over 1 billion people, by celebrating with hands-on
activities, games, food, and cultural discoveries!
MATH
NE
W THE GREAT MATH-ESCAPE Grades: (6-8)
You are locked in an exciting learning environment and there is only one way out! All you will have is
math knowledge and clues! Campers will experience an engaging time with secret passageways, puzzles,
obstacle courses and more. You will use social skills along with new and prior math knowledge in order to
plan your great escape! Come join our team for a week of fascination in the world of math like you have
never experienced before!
MATH MAGIC Grades: (K-1)
Campers experience the joy of math through hands-on activities and games designed to expand their
knowledge and excite them about numbers. Math will come alive as campers build a strong foundation in
their mathematical skills!
MATH FUNDAMENTALS Grades: (2-5)
Keep your math skills sharp this summer! Campers will study a variety of topics including fractions, integers,
time, and money. Campers will receive lots of practice using calculators and laptops as well as engaging
in creative (and edible) math activities. Topics will be customized to meet individual needs, including an
introduction to algebra for older children.
NE
W MATH STAR Grades: (K-2)
A great way for kids to learn to LOVE MATH is to combine math and movement with fun and purpose! Fun
learning through play is the best way for kids to enjoy learning math “fun”damentals and prevent summer
slide. Each day math concepts will be explored through physically active games, stories, and songs to
promote engagement and increase retention. Math facts come to life during this interactive STEM Camp
that exercises minds and bodies.
8
READING
BOOK WORMS IN THE GARDEN and FUN WITH NUMBERS Grades: (PreK3-PreK4)
Designed to spark a young child’s curiosity in letters and numbers and encourage a lifelong love of
learning, this camp will promote the fun of reading books, making crafts, playing games, and singing
songs to connect with letters and their sounds. We’ll begin building math readiness skills through fun
activities focused on number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and rote counting (a short nap time is
included).
LIVING LITERATURE Grades: (K-2)
“Kuplink, kuplank, kuplunk.” Classics of children’s literature like Blueberries for Sal come alive in this camp
through reading, writing, arts and crafts, edible projects, and fun and games. Jumpstart your child’s love of
books.
READING Grades: (2-3) & (4-5)
Campers will develop their reading proficiency by learning and practicing a variety of strategies to improve
comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. Skills such as finding facts, making inferences, identifying the main
idea, and drawing conclusions will be emphasized. Practicing these skills also helps with standardized test
prep!
READING ROUNDUP Grades: (K-1)
New and emerging readers experience the joy of reading as they practice and strengthen their skills.
Exciting educational activities will enrich the reading experience and make reading FUN!
SCIENCE
JUNIOR ASTRONOMY Grades: (K-2)
Black holes and quasars — the mysteries of the universe captivate young children. From creating models
of the solar system to simulating a trip into outer space, young astronomers will soar as they expand their
natural fascination with all things celestial through creative, hands-on activities.
JUNIOR SCIENTISTS Grades: (K-2)
