Firework safety tips for parents
The safest and best way to enjoy fireworks is to go to an organised display. Check
you local paper or local council website for details of events taking place in your area.
Please do not consume alcohol when using fireworks. Fireworks must be used by
individuals who act in a responsible manner and who are not impaired in any way.
Children Should Not Handle Fireworks. Never let children handle, play with or
light any fireworks.
Sparklers should be lit one at a time and held at arm’s length. Anyone
handling sparklers should wear gloves. Children should be supervised at all times
and children under 5 should not be given sparklers.
Use common sense. Follow the instructions on each firework carefully and
never go near a firework that has been lit. Even if it hasn’t gone off, it could still
explode.
Spectators should keep a safe distance
Pets should be kept indoors with the curtains closed and gentle
music playing to mask the noise of the fireworks. For more tips on
how to make Bonfire Night as stress-free for your pets as possible, visit
www.rspca.org.uk/allaboutanimals/pets/general/fireworks.
It is a criminal offence to set fireworks off after 11pm.
Anyone caught doing so will be issued with an £80 fine.
