SPMHA PLAYER EVALUATION PROCESS 2016 PEEWEE, BANTAM, MIDGET SKILLS SMALL AREA GAMES EVALUATION / SCRIMMAGE GAMES TIERING / PARITY GAMES Skills: The Individual Skills Sessions are the first step of the evaluation process. It gives evaluators a preliminary assessment of the player's abilities and will comprise their base score (in combination with their previous season level of play). This score will be used to group players of similar skill for the small area game session. Two main skills will be evaluated: skating & puck control. This session is timed. Small Area Games (SAG): The Small Area Game Sessions are the second step in the evaluation process. It gives evaluators additional information in regards to the player’s ability in a specific position (forward or defence). When players compete in small area games it forces the player to participate. In games, a player can have a tendency to blend in or get "lost" and not get evaluated fairly. During these sessions, players have an opportunity to really show what they can do. SAG will further demonstrate the forward's ability to support, pass and create a scoring chance and the defender's ability to keep the puck to the outside of scoring zone and clear the puck without shooting it out of the zone. Evaluation / Scrimmage Games: The Evaluation / Scrimmage Games are the most vital step in the evaluation process. This is when the player has the opportunity to demonstrate all their hockey skills and playing ability. It should emphasize their ability to see the ice, properly anticipate plays, and react accordingly. Players need to show intensity and team play every second they are on the ice. Tiering / Parity Games: The Tiering / Parity Games are the final step in the evaluation process. Team placement will be finalized after these games. Some players may not require a parity game if there is only team per a tier.
