SENIOR PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT
Season 2013/14
This form must be completed by all senior members of Wealden Netball Club.
As a member of Wealden Netball Club players agree to:
•
Attend training and matches on time.
•
Arrive at least 30 minutes before a match - or at a previously agreed time - to warm up
thoroughly.
•
Respect, encourage and support the coach and other players at training and matches
•
Notify the team captain and/or coach as soon as possible (no less than 4 days) of
unavailability for matches and no less than 24 hours of non attendance to training. Call if
running late.
•
Make every effort to develop their own sporting abilities, in terms of skill, technique, tactics
and stamina.
•
Give maximum effort and strive for the best possible performance during a game, even if his
team is in a position where the desired result has already been achieved.
•
Wear the correct kit for matches and suitable clothing/footwear for training.
•
Set a positive example for others, particularly young players and supporters.
•
Know and abide by the Laws, rules and spirit of the game, and the competition rules.
•
Accept success and failure, victory and defeat, equally.
•
Resist any temptation to take banned substances.
•
Abide by the instructions of their Coach or Captain provided they do not contradict the spirit
of this Code.
•
Promote Wealden Netball Club positively to people in and outside of the club.
•
Pay annual subscriptions on time.
•
Support the club in fundraising events.
•
Not use Social Media technology to bring the game into disrepute or make an inappropriate
comment about a fellow official, coach, athlete, volunteer or the NGB.

JUNIOR PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT
Season 2013/14
This form must be completed by all junior members of Wealden Netball Club.
As a junior member of Wealden Netball Club players agree to:
•
Play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.
•
Respect the rights, dignity of worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural
background or religion.
•
Keep to agreed timings for training can competitions or inform their coach or team manager
if they are going to be late.
•
Wear suitable kit for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager.
•
Pay any fees for training or events promptly.
•
Not to smoke anywhere at training or matches whilst representing the club.
•
Not to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind whilst representing the club.
•
Not use Social Media technology to bring the game into disrepute or make an inappropriate
comment about a fellow official, coach, athlete, volunteer or the NGB.

COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT
Season 2013/14
This form must be completed by all coaches of Wealden Netball Club.
Coaches of Wealden Netball Club agree to:
•
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every person and treat each equally within
the context of the game.
•
Place the well-being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the
development of performance.
•
Adhere to all guidelines laid down by England Netball.
•
Develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and
respect.
•
Provide explanation, clarification and feedback to individuals and teams for selection
decisions and tactics adopted when the time is appropriate and in the best interest of both
the player and the coach.
•
Encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and
performance.
•
Ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity,
experience and ability of players.
•
At the outset, clarify with the players (and, where appropriate, parent) exactly what is
expected of them and also what they are entitled to expect from their coach.
•
Put out a team that has the best chance of winning, with an as inclusive approach to the
squad as a whole as is possible, with due consideration to all of the available circumstances
and information available to them at the time.
•
Select a team that protects the reputation of Wealden Netball Club as a local, regional and
national club.
•
Always promote the positive aspects of Netball (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations
of the Laws of the Game, behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game or
relevant rules and regulations or the use of prohibited substances.
•
Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
•
Not use or tolerate inappropriate language.
•
Not use Social Media technology to bring the game into disrepute or make an inappropriate
comment about a fellow official, coach, athlete, volunteer or the NGB.

PARENTS CODE OF CONDUCT
Season 20013/14
This form must be completed by at least one parent/guardian of a junior member of
Wealden Netball Club.
Parents of a Wealden Netball Club player agree to:
•
Encourage players to participate for their own enjoyment.
•
Emphasise the importance of involvement first, winning second.
•
Praise effort and performance rather than simply achievement most often in the case of a
victory.
•
Encourage players to play by the rules and not argue with umpires or other officials.
•
Not ridicule or shout at players for making a mistake or losing a game.
•
Respect the decision of the coach or team captain with regards to team selection and
playing of substitutions.
•
Respect the decision of the umpire and team officials.
•
Not use Social Media technology to bring the game into disrepute or make an inappropriate
comment about a fellow official, coach, athlete, volunteer or the NGB.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR COACHES
OFFICIALS AND VOLUNTEERS
Season 2013/14
As a coach, official or volunteer of Wealden Netball Club I will try to work within the
following guidelines:
•
Always ensure that I am never left alone with one child. Avoid situations where an individual
child (that is not my own) and myself are completely unobserved.
•
If any form of physical support is required, it will be provided openly and according to
guidelines provided by England Netball.
•
Where possible, parents/guardians will take on the responsibility for their young people in
the changing rooms. If young people have to be supervised in the changing rooms, the club
will try to ensure that coaches/volunteers work in pairs.
•
Encourage an open environment (i.e. no secrets, always explain why you are doing
something in that way, encourage a diplomatic approach to the club’s activities with young
people being able to put their views forward).
•
When working with the teams, the club will agree with parents/guardians when it is
appropriate to enter the changing area.
•
Include young people in committee decisions to ensure their voice is heard.
As a coach, official or volunteer of Wealden Netball Club I will avoid:
•
Spending excessive amounts of time alone with young people away from others.
•
Taking young people (apart from my own relations) alone on car journeys, however short.
•
Taking young people (apart from my own relations) to my home where they will be alone
with me.
As a coach, official or volunteer of Wealden netball Club I will never:
•
Engage in rough, physical or sexually provocative games, including horseplay.
•
Share a room with a young person (apart from my own relations).
•
Allow or engage in any form of inappropriate touching.
•
Allow young people to use inappropriate language unchallenged.
•
Make sexually suggestive comments to a young person, even in fun.
•
Do things of a personal nature for young people that they can do for themselves.
•
Invite or allow young people (apart from my own relations) to stay with me at my home
unsupervised.
•
Allow allegations to be made by a child to go unchallenged, unrecorded or not acted upon.

Wealden Netball Club coaches, officials and volunteers agree to:
•
Remember that young people can and do participate for pleasure and winning is only part of
the fun.
•
Never ridicule or yell at a young player for making a mistake or not coming first.
•
Be reasonable in demands on players' time, energy and enthusiasm.
•
Operate within the rules and spirit of your sport and tech your players to do the same.
•
Ensure that the time players spend with you is a positive experience. All young people are
deserving of equal attention and opportunities.
•
Ensure equal playing time of all players of all ranges of ability.
•
Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age
and ability of all players.
•
Display control, respect and professionalism to all involved with the sport. And encourage
players to do the same.
•
Show concern and caution toward sick and injured players. Follow the advice of a first aider
when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training and
competition.
•
Obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and
the principles of growth and development of young people. (Coaches only).
•
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender,
ability, cultural development.
•
