Your vote could help a local school win a $500 BC Green Games Viewers’ Choice Award
(Vancouver, BC)—Help spread the word about environmental action that’s happening in your community and help your
school win $500 for their green projects. From March 1–31, British Columbians are encouraged to go online and vote in
the sixth annual Viewers’ Choice Awards for Science World’s BC Green Games.
The contest, with over $20,000 in prizes, celebrates and shares environmental sustainability projects created by BC
students. Four of these inspirational stewardship projects, submitted as either a video or as a photo essay, will receive
$500 each in the Viewers’ Choice Awards. Two prizes will go to elementary schools and two will go to secondary schools.
Each member of the public can vote for five projects in the main competition and the top ten competitors, five from
primary and five from elementary schools, will be entered into a social media competition. Voters will be able to access
the contest via the BC Green Games Facebook page where they will find it easy to vote and share favorites with friends
and family. The public voting period runs from March 1–31 and all projects can be viewed at bcgreengames.ca.
A team of judges from across BC, consisting of teachers, scientists, government members and business leaders, will
choose another 22 winning projects that will each be awarded prizes of $1,000. All green projects submitted will be
archived in our project gallery to inspire others to embark on their own green initiatives.
Educator, Joan Wilkinson said, “I am a mentor for a group of middle school students at an after school program and I've
been using your gallery page as a resource to teach students about the importance of environmental sustainability and
living green. I wanted to let you know that your information has been a big help to us!”
“The BC Green Games is a ‘green mine’ of over 650 green projects from around BC for other schools and organizations to
prospect for green ideas to take back and use in their sites.” said Kevin Lyseng, Teacher Consultant: Science of
Environmental Stewardship.
Science World manages the BC Green Games with input from youth, government, school districts and universities, along
with science and environmental education community partners. This year’s presenting sponsors are BC Hydro, FortisBC
and Call2Recycle.
