Dear Parents and Guardians
Welcome
to
our
new
students: Pre Kindy: Lucy Bill
and Maddison Scrivener, One
Blue: Khiana Taute, Two Red:
Luke Ward and Five Red: Emily
Ward.
Term Four is always a busy

term because we focus on bringing this year to a
close as well as preparing for 2017. At this point
in time staffing for next year has not been
finalised, however, if you do have a particular
educational based request for 2017, please put
this in writing to me prior to Monday November
7. Also, if you are relocating and will not be
returning in 2017, we ask that you also inform us
as soon as possible. We have families relocating
to Mandurah looking for a position for next year
and as many classes are at capacity, we have to
place prospective families on a waiting list. I am
currently organising Pre Kindy enrolments for
2017, even if your child is not turning three years

you enrol them so that we can gauge the class

term. Tomorrow night is the Quiz Night
sponsored by Lee Perry and Harcourts, and our
P&F. It is looking to be another fantastic evening.
Once again this year we will be paying forward
our fundraising that we will receive from the Quiz
night by supporting the HALO team. We have donated sausages and rolls and the volunteers from
Halo will be cooking the sausage sizzle on Friday evening. All proceeds from the sausage sizzle will go
to HALO. We also ask that each Quiz Night participant brings along a can of something to support
HALO. Their top ten items are: long life milk, pasta sauce, tuna, tinned tomatoes, coffee, tin
vegetables, takeaway containers, tinned fruit, stock and baked beans.
There are still tickets available for the Quiz Night. It is a great night out.
This morning we saw Stage Two of our Nature Playground 'Tuckerland' finally commence. Stage
Two has been funded by our P&F and the 2015 Quiz Night. This is an awesome example of where all
that hard earned fundraising goes...for our children.
Special Event – On Thursday November 10 the Assumption Choir will be joined by the Mandurah
Senior Choir in a special event being held in the Presentation Centre at 2pm. We welcome everyone
to come along.
Our Annual General Meeting will be held on November 22, commencing at 6.30pm. At this
meeting we reflect over the year that has been and also present our plans for 2017. We also ask for
people to join the P&F and School Board. This year Mrs Priscilla McManus will be stepping down
from our School Board. Priscilla has taken on the role of treasurer for longer than I have been at the
school. We are now looking for a new member to join the Board and although not a prerequisite;
someone who does have either an accounting or business background would be a real asset to the
Board. The Board meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 7.00pm. Please consider nominating
for the Board, forms are available from the Office or email your expression of interest to
[email protected].
Parking: yes parking, nearly each newsletter I have to comment on parking. I am aware that the car
park is not perfect, even though it is the best case scenario at the time of redesign. There are some
points I do need to stress:

Under no circumstances is the slip way on Seminole Ave for parking, it is for buses only.




Parents are not to wait for cars to move at the entrance off Seminole Avenue as this stops
buses from exiting the slipway and blocks traffic, causing even more congestion and quite
grumpy bus drivers.
Please do not compromise your child's safety by getting them to come out to the driveway
to meet you. You may have to do another loop to pick them up but the reality is, this will
only take you five minutes at the most. Is five minutes worth your child's safety?
I do encourage parents of older children, to wait and come ten minutes after the bell as I can
assure you it will a lot quicker and you will most likely get home at the same time!
BEFORE SCHOOL SUPERVISION commences at 8.15am. If your child comes to school earlier
than this, there is not a teacher on supervision. If your child does need to be dropped off
earlier please use the OSHC Club facilities. Once again it about your child's safety.
Being the third week of term, students are now wearing their full summer uniform and at this time
of the year I always make comment on how many of the girls have grown significantly since first
term. I do not wish to sound extremely old fashioned, however, some dresses really need to be
lengthened to enable the students to move freely and comfortably around the school.
Below is an excerpt from our Uniform Guide to clarify expectations. This guide is also available on
our website.
The following rules apply to the wearing of the Assumption Catholic Primary School Uniform:

STEP A THON for STEP Inc: Last Friday our Year 5 and 6 students participated in combined school's
Stepathon raising money for the local Mandurah charity raising money for the support of the health
and wellbeing of the youth of Mandurah. Our school raised over $1500. Over 1000 students from
local primary and secondary schools participated in the event.
MULTICULTURAL DINNER was recently held at Our Lady's Assumption Parish, it was a really
special evening. It was a real pleasure seeing some of our students and families participating in the
cultural acts.
GRANDPARENTS DAY: November 10: I know this is a few weeks away but I do want to give you
advance warning as I know it is always such a special morning for both Grandparents and for the
children. We are also mindful that for many children in our school their grandparents may not live
close by, so please feel free to bring another significant adult to support your child. We commence
the day with a Mass and then a morning tea. Further information will be sent home closer to the
date.
I wish you every blessing for the term ahead, and as our prayer resonates; please keep our families
who may be experiencing sadness or difficulties at this time in your prayers.
Thank you
Mrs Kerrie Merritt

bags.
LOST PROPERTY
This is still a major concern with a large number of items still turning up at the office with no names marked
or names that are barely visible, some of these items have been new. All lost property is cleared at the end
of each term so please check your child’s uniform. Please ensure all items of uniform are labelled clearly. If
you happen to have an item with someone else’s name on it please return it to the office.
HEAD LICE
We stock a wonderful range of natural head lice products. These products are supplied by Pritti Hair
Design and include a lice bomb, shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner and hair styling products. They
are made with essential oils and do not have harmful chemicals. Reports are very favourable on these
products.
SPORTS SHOES
Sport shoes are to be predominately white (not grey) with some colour allowed, no fluro colours, grannies
or volleys. Shoe laces must be white. If your child needs new sport shoes make sure they are the correct
colour. There are a large number of students wearing the wrong shoes.

the office or the Uniform Shop
