Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball All-Stars Information
All participants that are selected for the tournament team will have to pay _________ for a uniform and
insurance. Participants must pay for their uniform and insurance in full before they will be allowed to
practice.
All participants must make a commitment to attend 75% of practices and must be at every tournament
game. This required commitment shall be from practices prior to the District Tournament through the
World Series. If a participants fails to meet all requirement without a reasonable excuse, they will be
removed from the team and be ineligible for the tournament team next year.
If there is an illness or an injury, a doctor’s excuse must be turned into the Christiansburg Recreation
Department.
Dixie Youth baseball and Softball Eligibility Requirements for Player and Coaches:
 Coaches and Players shall meet all Dixie Youth or Dixie Softball rules and regulations and
eligibility requirements to participate in the all-star selection process.
Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation Selection for Tournament Team:
 The Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department is committed to promoting the most fair
and transparent All-Star selection process for our youth baseball and softball players. The Parks
and Recreation Advisory Committee will review input from stakeholders annually during their
regularly scheduled October Recreation Advisory Committee meeting.
 The process approved by the Parks and Recreation Department will utilize three separate
components to ensure that each player wishing to be considered for an All-Star team is given an
opportunity to compete for available spots on each team.
 Parks and Recreation staff will submit affidavits to each team and the head coach will be
responsible for having parents complete and return these in a timely fashion. The affidavits are
the official communication that a player wants to try-out for the All-Star team. If the affidavit is
not returned to the Parks and Recreation Department by the date specified on the affidavit, the
player will not be eligible for consideration for All-Star selection.
 All eligible players with a completed affidavit can participate in the skills assessment clinic.
 The skills assessment will be a two (2) day event and rankings will count up to 50% in the All-Star
selection process. The Parks and Recreation Department will provide neutral judges for the
skills assessment clinic to rank players independently. Regular season coaches are prohibited
from participating in the skills assessment clinic. In the case of inclement weather conditions or
the regular season running longer due to make-up games, the skills assessment clinic may be
extended at the discretion of the Parks and Recreation Youth Sports Supervisor.
 The second component in the All-Star selection process is player ballots. Each player will
complete a ballot for their team. The balloting process will be administered by the Parks and
Recreation Department and will count up to 20% in the All-Star selection process.
 The third and final component in the All-Star selection process will include coaches’ ballots.
Head coaches for each team will complete a ballot for eligible players on other teams than the
team that they coach. Coaches cannot cast a vote for a player on their team. The balloting
process will be administered by the Parks and Recreation Department and will count up to 30%
in the All-Star selection process.
 The Parks and Recreation Department will tally the three components of the All-Star balloting
process and hold a meeting with head coaches. The results of the balloting process will be
presented to the coaches at this time.
 The top ten (10) scoring players in the balloting process will be required for inclusion on the AllStar team. The All-Star team manager will have the ability to select players 11 and 12 on the
team based on position needs, if they desire. If the manager does not want to determine the
last two (2) players on the team, the next two highest scoring players in the balloting process
will be included on the All Star team.
 Alternates will be selected in order to take the place of another participant who cannot meet
the commitment policy and/or due to an injury that would prevent them from playing in a
tournament. An alternate can practice with the team and may purchase a uniform if they
choose but Dixie Youth or Dixie Softball does not recognize them as an official member of a
team.
 Alternates must meet all Dixie Youth or Dixie Softball rules and eligibility requirements.
Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation Selection for Tournament Team Manager and
Coaches:
 Any league coach that desires to manage or coach the All-Star team must submit a letter to the
Supervisor of Youth Athletics declaring their desire to manage/coach and provide their
qualifications. The Parks and Recreation Department will not accept any other method in
declaring an interest to coach an All-Star team. An interested coach who submits a declaration
letter of must be willing to accept either a manager or assistant coach position at the discretion
of Department of Parks and recreation Youth Sports Supervisor.
 The manager and coaches will be selected by the Supervisor of Youth Athletics.
 The Director of Parks and Recreation will approve the tournament team manager and coaches.
 The manager and coaches will be selected as early as possible.
 The manager and coaches must follow the same commitment policy as required of the players.
 The manager and coaches will determine the player positions, batting line up and playing time.
 The manager and the Supervisor of Youth Athletics will make a practice schedule as soon as the
tournament team has been picked. The manager will notify the participants of their first
practice. The manager will give out a typed practice schedule to each participant at the first
practice.
 It is the responsibility of the manager to document practice attendance and provide the
information to the Supervisor of Youth Athletics, who will make it available to the public.
 If a practice has to be cancelled due to inclement weather, it is the manager’s and/or coach’s
responsibility to inform the participants.
 Selection as a manager/coach does not guarantee that said coach/manager will receive
successive appointments.
Information and Dates:
 If a player is sick or injured and will miss practice, it is the responsibility of the player to inform
the coach prior to practice. It is not the responsibility of the Recreation Department to provide
this notification.
 If a player, manager or coach loses part of their uniform they will be charged for its
replacement.
 The District, State and World Series have admission fees to attend the tournament. The
manager will notify parents of these costs. The manager, coaches and players do not have to
pay the admission fee.
As soon as dates and locations are set for the District, State and World Series Tournaments, the
Supervisor of Youth Athletics will send a memo out to each regular season team coach to be
handed out.
Based on the history of prior years, the tournament teams usually start practices around June 20th.
The district tournament is usually played the first part of July. The state tournament is usually played
in the middle of July. The World Series is usually played the last part of July through the first part of
August. A district tournament win is required to advance to the state tournament. A state
tournament win is required to advance to the World Series. Exact tournament dates are determined
by each host locality.
The Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation retains the rights to make any changes to this
policy as needed.
