POYNTON CRICKET MATTERS
ISSUE Fifty – four
march 2011
MIKE WALTON STEPS DOWN
Mike Walton has resigned from his position as Acting Chair of the Cricket section on
health grounds. I’m sure we all thank Wally for his services and look forward to seeing
him back at the club as a supporter soon. He has one duty left as Chairman, which is
to host next month’s Bubbly Breakfast – see below.
KEY CHANGES TO PLAYING REGS
Ahead of the new season, please note the following changes to Cheshire County
League regulations:

Without the permission of the Cricket Committee, no player may make his
maiden 1st or 2nd XI appearance of the season for his club during the last five
Saturdays of the season unless he has already played in a 1st, 2nd or 3rd XI
League fixture, Over 40s game or at junior level.

No player who has played for the 1st XI on a Saturday is eligible to play for the
3rd XI on a Sunday or Bank Holiday.

Any player over 18 who has played for the club’s 2nd XI on a Saturday is
ineligible to play for the 3rd XI on a Sunday.

A player cannot make his first appearance of the season for his club from the
quarter-final round of a CCL cup competition onwards.

In all 3rd XI league matches, no bowler may bowl more than 15 overs in a
game.

All clubs must accurately enter their full 1st and 2nd XI League scorecards on
the League website. 1st XI data must be entered within 48 hours of the end of
a match and 2nd XI data within 96 hours, or fines will be imposed.
FIXTURE NEWS
The 1st XI and 2nd XI league seasons will run from Saturday April 23 to Saturday
September 17 inclusive. The first team commence away to Marple, one of two sides
promoted from division two.
Poynton will play Cheadle Hulme at home in round two of the Red Insure T20 League
Knockout. Second round losers will enter the Plate competition. Finals Day for the 1st
XI T20 Cup & Plate will be at Warrington on Sunday August 14. The Cheshire winners
will enter the Cockspur Area Finals.
Poynton travel to Stockport, newly promoted to division two of the County League, for
round two of the Cheshire Cup on Sunday May 15.
Poynton are ineligible to enter the 2nd XI Cup having forfeited a match in 2010.
The 3rd XI league fixtures commence on Sunday May 8 at home to Timperley and
continue each Sunday until September 4.
The 3rd XI Jack Gardner Trophy becomes a 20 over competition for 2011. Please note
that the draw has been revised, and Poynton have now been drawn to play Stockport
and Alderley Edge in the group stage in late April/early May, with the winners of this
group proceeding to the Knockout stage. Plans for a Finals Day where the semi-finals
and final are played on the same day have been abandoned, the semi-finals will now
be at the ground of one of the two teams, and the date and venue for the final are still
to be confirmed.
Poynton Legends will play their Over 40s Championship matches from Wednesday
May 4 to Wednesday July 27 inclusive, with one blank Wednesday. Finals Day for the
regional division winners will be at Neston on Bank Holiday Monday August 29.
