CANDIDATE PROFILE – FALL/WINTER 2017/18
Orientation and Outreach Ambassador
CONTRACT PERIOD: Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 terms, beginning from Orientation (Saturday August 26th-Friday
September 1st, 2017) until Friday April 4th, 2018. Participation in preparatory training for this opportunity from
August 18th-19th, 2017, select modules offered during August 21st-25th.
Orientation and Outreach Ambassadors receive training and support from a team of professional and peer staff in the
Office of Student Transition. Students who successfully fulfill the Orientation and Outreach Ambassador opportunity
will receive recognition on the co-curricular record for their time commitment and skill development. Successful
completion will be advantageous to candidates who apply to the OST for employment positions in future years. Some
potential future employment opportunities within OST could include: LAUNCH Team Leader, Orientation and
Outreach Leader In-Training, Academic Coaching Mentors, Orientation and Outreach Team Leader, REACH Leaders,
etc.
REPORT TO: The Orientation and Outreach Ambassadors will report to the Office of Student Transition at the
University of Toronto Mississauga, and directly to the Student Success Coordinator, Orientation and Outreach
Programs. The Student Success Coordinator will provide training, support, and assistance in their role.

For Co-Curricular Record (CCR) Recognition
For this opportunity to be approved on the CCR, the following criteria are reviewed along with the total number of
hours of time given. CCR recognition is available in three levels, to reflect the commitment level given by the student;
Bronze: the below items, totaling 40 hours of time or less;
Silver: the below items, totaling 41 to 59 hours of time;
Gold: the below items, totaling 60 hours of time or more.







Available for: Monthly in-service/orientation and outreach ambassador team meetings and individual checkin meetings with OST’s professional staff.
Available for: Student Leader Training (Friday August 18 th-Saturday August 19th) with select modules during
the week of (August 21st-25th, 2017).
Attendance in OST resource outreach initiatives
Attendance in OST orientation initiatives
Attendance in OST mentorship initiatives
Attendance in Guardians of UTM mobile app culminating event
Attendance in Office of Student Transition events such as: Exam Jam (Fall Term/Winter Term), Emerge at
UTM, Fall/Spring Break Open-House, etc.
Orientation and Outreach Ambassadors must be enrolled in 40% of a full course load for the entire fall/winter period

ROLE SUMMARY:
Orientation and Outreach Ambassadors are a group of upper-year students, who welcome new to UTM students
during ‘O-Week’ and engage in OST outreach initiatives throughout the fall/winter term to support students in their
transition to UTM. Orientation and Outreach Ambassadors will act as a resource for students and will be involved
with:





Following University policies to answer questions and inform students;
Referring students to relevant resources and campus services;
Monitoring UofT email account on a regular basis for role-related emails;
Being respectful and professional, and demonstrating appropriate campus behavior;
Additional engagement opportunities as they interest the Orientation and Outreach Ambassador
