Physical Education Newsletter
Here are some of the FUN things that we are
doing in PE.
K-2: Students are learning to play games that
involve social interaction, manipulative skills,
spatial awareness, eye -hand and foot
coordination, including core control. Movement
games are also being introduced. This will give
the student an active role in maintaining to, and
adhering to establish standards.
3-5: Students are being introduced to cooperative
games that progress from games of low
organization to more complex and strategically
demanding. The students will learn to make
connections between gross motor skills and the
rules of the game. Students will collaborative
engage in mixed groups due to the fact the have
different levels of learning capabilities.
We just finished working with the basic skills of
Volleyball, which was very successful with all
grades. The students earned Stars and they
collaborated very well with each other. Now
Kickball is the game.YHere the students will learn
the basics of kicking, catching, throwing and
scoring. Teamwork and good sportsmanship will
be part of the activity at all times. They will learn
to be aware that reaction time is very important
when engaged playing this exciting game.
Youth Jamboree @ Icahn Stadium
The next Jamboree will take place this Saturday
April 29, from 9:00AM to 12:00PM
Only pre-registered students will be able to
participate. There will NOT be any
registration the day of the event. A schedule
of events and times was given to the
students that will be attending.

95% of the students with miles
20 Laps around the perimeter of
the gym equals 1 mile
20 Average miles per student
Keep on Running Mighty Squirrels!
Incentives are given as they are earned.
Track and Field Club
Running is a great way to stay active. This
gives them the opportunity to build
endurance and stamina, and grades 2-5 are
having a great time coming together.
Besides running, students get the chance to
socially interact with each other.
Track Team
Track Team try-outs are ongoing during PE
classes and recess. Students must be in good
standing regarding attendance, academics
and behavior in order to take part. Space is
limited. The next Track Meet
will take place May 9th, 2017.
FitnessGram
The FitnessGram assessments are all completed, the 4th and 5th grade students feel good.
PS 166 Mighty Squirrels are mighty fit.

the NYC Schools Account. Families are encouraged to create an account if they do not currently
have one. Please visit the following link to sign in or find information on how to create an

FITNESSGRAM information up to and including the 2015-16 school year is in the Health section
