NOTTINGHAM PLAYERS WIN BIG
Community wins £2 million
There were screams of delight in Nottingham today (Saturday 2 May) as five lucky People’s Postcode
Lottery players scooped a whopping £200,000 each as their postcode, NG8 5FH, was revealed as the
full winning postcode in People’s Postcode Lottery’s Postcode Millions.
The five winners all played with the full winning postcode which ensured they walked away with the
lion’s share of the prize pot. The event saw 216 residents in the winning postcode sector NG8 5
share a £2million prize pot, with prizes ranging from £1,106 - £200,000.
Malcolm Irvine, 67, who has only been playing People’s Postcode Lottery since March, couldn’t
believe it when his cheque for £200,000 was revealed. “I can’t believe I won this much already after
just one month, it’s absolutely amazing.”
Malcolm, a retired bus driver originally from the North East of England, has the perfect plan for his
recent cash boost, “My daughter Caroline, 31, is engaged and we’d love to help her have her dream
wedding,” said Malcolm.
Malcolm, grandfather of two boys, attended today’s celebration with his wife Rosemary. Rosemary
described her delight at winning with all of her neighbours, “It’s great that the whole community
won, it’s brought us all together and now we’re all winners.”
The Irvine’s don’t a have long to wait to celebrate their win as they are jetting off to France in three
weeks’ time for some time in the sun, Malcolm said, “We’re off to Brittany soon so we’ll be able to
relax there and really think about what we’re going to do with our winnings.”
Anita Hodson, 42, has her friend Kirsty to thank for her recent win as it was Kirsty that convinced her
to sign up. “I’ll definitely have to take my friend out for a large glass of wine now,” said Anita.
Anita, a mum to three girls and one boy, was absolutely gobsmacked when her cheque was pulled
out the gold envelope, saying, “I would have been delighted with £500 but this is just life changing,
I’ve no idea what I’m going to spend it on but I’m sure my children and husband Paul will help me
decide!”
Anita and Paul have just recently bought a new house but ironically it is their old address that has
scooped them this prize pot. Anita joked that perhaps they shouldn’t be selling their old house now
as it has proven to be so lucky.
The third lucky winner today was Julie Jones, 54, who celebrated her win with her daughter Jodie,
28.
Julie, who has another daughter, Vickki, 32, who currently lives and works in Russia as a tour driver
and a son Lee, 34, couldn’t wait to get in touch with her family to tell them about her win. Julie said,
“My daughter Vickki said she would come home from Russia if I won big so I’ll hopefully be seeing
her soon to celebrate.”
Now that Julie, who works at family business Old Baseford, has won £200,000 she plans to move
house but hopes to stay in her local area, saying: “This postcode has proven too lucky for me to
move too far away.”
Two of the five lucky winners today chose to remain anonymous.
Sector winner Sammie- Jo Garmston, 30, had already scooped £8,848 during the event in
Nottingham before discovering she had also won a brand new BMW 1 Series.
Lynn Winfield, 55, who scooped £4,424, already had a bit of insight into her win before todays event
as a recent trip to a local physic predicted her lottery win. “I visited a physic not long ago who told
me that I had to sign up to play People’s Postcode Lottery as I was definitely going to win, thank
goodness I listened to her,” said Lynn.
April has proven to be an extremely lucky month for players in Nottingham as it was just a few
weeks ago that players from NG6 8DG scooped £1,000 per ticket in the Daily Prize.
People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt was on hand today to hand out the cheques to
the delighted players. “It’s been a lovely day here in Nottingham and the reactions from all the
winners have been phenomenal,” said Judie. Judie continued, “I’d like to congratulate all of today’s
winners, I’m sure this will be a Saturday to remember.”
It’s not just players like Malcolm, Anita and Julie who win by playing People’s Postcode Lottery, as a
charity lottery over £66.4 million has been awarded to charities and good causes. The winners’
celebration saw a number of supported charities in attendance including Canal & River Trust, British
Red Cross, Missing People, Girlguiding, and Book Aid International.
