Command View EVA description
• Legacy software management interface to the EVA family
• Part of comprehensive software suite (HP StorageWorks
Command View EVA Software Suite)
• Supports server-based (SBM) and array-based
management (ABM--EVA4400 only)
• Provides web-based GUI and management software for
EVA family
– Allows ease of setting up and managing the EVA including
system initialization, disk groups, vdisks, presentation of
storage and replication.
– Accessible through a standard Internet browser running on
various operating systems

• Version 7.01 supports XCS 6.1xx, VCS 3.1xx, VCS 4.1xx
• Version 8.0 supports XCS 6.1x, XCS 09000000, XCS
09001000, VCS 3.1xx, VCS 4.1xx
• Version 8.02 supports XCS 6.1xx, XCS 6.2xx, XCS
09003000 through XCS 09006000, VCS 3.1xx, VCS 4.1xx
• Version 8.1 is initial support for ABM, that is, installation on
the EVA4400 Management Module, with XCS 09006000
• Version 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3 (the latest) support XCS 6.2xx,
XCS 09522000, XCS 09530000 (limited release), XCS
09534000, VCS 3.1xx, VCS 4.1xx

Command View EVA server support
For server-based management, Command View EVA is
supported on
• Dedicated management server (most common option)
– Windows server
– Intended solely for HP storage software
• General-purpose server
• HP X3000 Network Storage Gateways
– Similar to general-purpose server
– Used to manage EVAs in the SAN and traditional NAS-based
applications
• VMware Guest OS (Command View 9.2 or later)

Management server system requirements
To install Command View EVA 9.x for SBM on a generalpurpose or dedicated management server, you need
• One of the following
– Windows Server 2003 Standard and EE SP1/SP2/R2 (32- or 64-bit)
– Windows Server 2008 Standard and EE (32- or 64-bit)
– Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and EE
• 1.26GHz processor (minimum)
• 2GB memory (minimum)
• 200MB for Command View EVA installation
• 2GB for log files
• 10MB for each managed array

Command View EVA rules and limitations
• One instance of Command View EVA software per server
• Maximum of 16 EVAs managed per server
• Best practice is to limit support to four arrays per Command
View instance
• One Command View EVA agent actively managing the EVA
– Command View EVA server must be within the same fabric
zone as the EVA(s)
– May switch between management agents (servers)
– Additional server may be “passive” while other manages
– With multiple agents, configure the systems so that all EVAs
are managed by a single agent at any given time

Command View EVA - ABM overview
For ABM, Command View EVA is installed and runs on
the HSV300 Management Module on the EVA4400
• Command View EVA version 8.1 or higher
• Support for the EVA4400 only
• For details on installation and features of ABM, check
current documentation

• Select options presented by the InstallAnywhere wizard

Creating Windows users
User groups are created automatically during installation
• You can also create them manually before initiating
installation
After installation, a user with administrator privileges must
• Create accounts for other Windows users
– Windows documentation has procedures for creating accounts
• Assign users to one of two user groups created during
installation
– HP Storage Admins — For users who have view and manage
capabilities
– HP Storage Users — For users who have view capabilities

Launching Command View EVA (1 of 2)
To launch versions 6.x to 9.x on any management server
• Open the browser (Java RTE 1.5.0_06+ recommended)
• Using the management server IP address or server name,
enter
https://< IP address or server name >:2372
– Command View EVA login window opens
– Note: If necessary, you can change the port number from the
default (2372)
• Enter a valid user name and password, and click Log On
– Valid user names are members of the HP Storage Admins
group or HP Storage Users group on the server
– Command View EVA user interface opens
• Verify the display of storage system resources in the
interface
