DECA Role Play Preparation

West Forsyth DECA Role Play Preparation
You have 10 minutes to prepare the role play. Write down
whatever information necessary on the paper provided.
Your role play should be between 5-7 minutes, and
structured in the following way:
1-Introduction- (30 seconds) Introduce yourself and say who you are working
for. Also give a brief synopsis of what you will be discussing with them. Start by
saying “we” not “I” and remain in character throughout the entire role play.
2-Performance Indicators – start going through your performance indicators.
This is where you earn the majority of your points. You must discuss each indicator.
Spend 1 minute discussing each indicator.
If you come across one you do not know, do your best and discuss whatever part of it
you do know. You can earn partial points. ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO SAY THE
PERFORMANCE INDICATOR WORD FOR WORD- it will help you earn more
points.
3-Questions – the judge will ask you 3 questions based on the role play. The
questions are predetermined from DECA, and the judge will ask every person the
same questions. Take your time when thinking about an answer, you may wait a few
seconds before delivering your answer.
4- Summary/Closing – (30-60 seconds) Summarize your role play. Do not repeat
word for word what you said, but rather tell why your ideas will help the situation at
hand. Give reasons why your ideas are good ones.
THAT’S IT! DONE!
