Woodland Tales
Follow up activities
Story stick
Ask the children to write a report about what they did, saw, smelt etc. on the
trip, using the story stick to help them remember the events. Then ask them to
write an imaginary story about the trip, again using the story stick if they wish
to.
Haiku
Haiku are short poems that originated in Japan. They are usually about the
natural world, and are often comprised of 17 syllables in 3 lines. Story sticks,
photographs taken on the trip, and their memories can be used to inspire the
haiku.
Wildlife stories (KS2+):
Ask the children to think about some of the habitats, plants and animals that
you saw on the trip, and use the internet to search for folk lore, stories, myths
and legends around them. Biodiversity Stories website is a good place to start
http://www.biodiversitystories.co.uk/. They could then write these stories in their
own words and illustrate them.
