CTA Harvest Database Application Local Officer User’s Guide January 2013 CREE GEOPORTAL
The entry point to all CTA applications is the Cree GeoPortal (www.creegeoportal.ca)
Log in to the system (the green box) with the credentials you have been assigned.
Enter your username and password, then click
The green log-in box will then display your username, signaling a successful log in.
To access the Cree Trappers’ Association section of the GeoPortal, locate the CTA
zone of the page. Click ‘Visit this section’.

In the Cree Trappers’ Association section of the GeoPortal, you will see all of the CTA
applications. Note that the Climate Change application is accessible directly from
the GeoPortal home page.
This manual provides instructions for the CTA HARVEST DATABASE application. To
launch the application click on Click here to launch the application.

To query the map:
1. Select a Species
Click
2. Select From Period
3. Select Until Period
to see your search results.
Search Results are displayed on the map as illustrated below.
Click
to clear your selections and reset the map.

Big Game Survey Data Entry
Click on the Big Game Survey Data Entry tab.
Follow these steps to enter data in the Big Game Survey:
1. Select a Community from the dropdown menu.
2. Select a Trapline from the dropdown menu. The trapline menu will display only
traplines for the selected community. The Tallyman field will be filled in
automatically with the name of the tallyman who owns the selected trapline.
2. Choose the Year during which the hunting was done.
3. Fill in the Hunter’s name.
4. Select the Month of the kill from the dropdown menu.
5. Enter the number of Black Bear, Moose, or Caribou. Be specific about male,
female, or young. Enter each type of kill and choose the Change* and Reason for
Change by selecting from the dropdown menus.
*Change refers to the increase or decrease in the number of kills for each
game since the last hunting / trapping season. If there is no change in the
number of kills for the game, choose same and leave the Reason for
Change as N/A (Not Applicable).

Click the Reset button to clear the information you entered.
Click the Save button to save the information you entered.
Most Recent Big Game Survey Entries
Once you have clicked Save, the entry you have just made will appear at the top of
the list displayed in the Most Recent Big Game Survey Entries window pane. The
newly saved entry will appear highlighted in yellow.
The list displays the most recent data entries made within the last month of the
current date. Note that the current date is displayed on the right side of the window
pane.
Editing or Deleting Previous Entries
It is possible to edit and delete previous data entries, including the one you may
have just saved.
To locate a specific entry, pick a date for the application to use as reference. Use the
calendar or type in the date (mm/dd/yyyy). Click Find, the application will display up
to 100 entries within a month of the date you enter into the date field. If you do not
get any results, modify the date by a week and try again. Scroll through the list until
you locate the entry you are looking for, then click anywhere on its row to select it; it
will be highlighted in blue.

Once you have selected a record you can now either edit by clicking on Edit Record
#xxxxx or delete it by clicking Delete Record #xxxxx.
If you click Delete Record #xxxxx a confirmation box will appear, asking you to
confirm you decision, click Yes to confirm, No to cancel the operation. Clicking Yes
will permanently remove the record from the list and database. Deleting a record
cannot be undone.
If you click Edit Record #xxxxx, the application will appear as illustrated below.
Modify the record as needed, in the same way you first entered the data. Click Save
when you are done.
Clicking Reset will cancel the edit function.

Trapline Capture Data Entry
Click on the Trapline Capture Data Entry tab.
Follow these steps to enter data:
1. Select a Community from the dropdown menu.
2. Select a Trapline from the dropdown menu. The trapline menu will display only
traplines for the selected community. The Tallyman field will be filled in
automatically with the name of the tallyman who owns the selected trapline.
2. Choose the Year during which the trapping was done.
3. Fill in the Hunter’s (Trapper’s) name.
4. Select the Month of the trapping from the dropdown menu.
5. Fill in your Band information.
Click the Reset button to clear the information you entered.
Click the Save button to save the information you entered.

Most Recent Trapline Capture Data Entries
Once you have clicked Save, the entry you have just made will appear at the top of

Reports
Click on the Reports tab.
This module generates charts based on your selection criteria.
Choose either Big Game Harvest Report or Trapline Capture Report. The
example below illustrates a Big Game Harvest Report.
Begin refining your Report Selection Criteria.
1. Choose a community.
2. Choose a trapline.
3. Choose From/Until Periods
You can choose all communities or just one, but not multiple communities
You can choose all traplines or just one, but not multiple traplines.

Optional Species Selection
Add or remove species from your criteria by clicking on the radio buttons.
Grouping and Sorting
Manage Grouping and Sorting by clicking on the radio buttons. Note that this
criteria will only affect how information is presented when Running a Report (see
examples below).
Run a Report
Click Run Report.
Clicking Run Report will download a Microsoft Excel file. If you have Excel installed
on your computer open the file. The data defined by your criteria will be displayed
numerically in a table.

Show a Chart
Click Show Chart.
Clicking Show Chart will generate a chart, displayed on the right side of the
application window.

Supplemental – Harvest Reports
Use this feature on the CTA section of the Cree Geoportal to generate PDF reports.
Choose the type of report you want to generate.
In the example below, a Big Game Survey report is being generated.
Select the year and click View to generate the report.
