MAZENOD PANTHERS FOOTBALL CLUB Playing in the Football Integration Development Association PREMIERS 2005, 2010. PANTHERS NEWS MAY 2012 and MATCH REPORT SUNDAY 29th APRIL MAZENOD PANTHERS BLUE 14.12. 96 defeated WYNDHAM1 1.2.8 First game of the 2012 season started well with a great win against the boys from Wyndham, Justin Dovaston was the main attraction for the day as he took to the ground running through the best looking banner ever to have been on the Central Reserve, for his 100th game of footy for the mighty Panthers, Dovo’s cheer squad turned up in numbers to support our very popular team leader on his big milestone game. Making his first appearance for the Panthers Aaron Yakender impressed the crowd with his booming kicks from centre half forward kicking a 50metre goal in the first quarter, welcome back to his best and fairest form Simon Pollock, playing his best game in three seasons was a ball magnet in the centre of the ground, supported by the new father Rod Pettit running hard through the middle of the ground and setting countless opportunities for Justin Dovaston in his first time at full forward to celebrate is 100th.Wyndham players were taken by surprise by the new enthusiastic, bigger ,stronger 2012 Panther machine .Sammy Samason was playing his usual hard at the ball game, only this year at a higher level proving that last year’s best and fairest result was an indication of the future potential of this young man as a very good player. Mark Vanderven was back with a heavily strapped knee for 2012 showing flashes of brilliance with a screamer 30 meters out in the first quarter, but unfortunately could not convert and missed the goal, his presence on the field this year will be fantastic. Shaun Dux was playing well trying to get all players into the game with some very unselfish play, while last year B and F John Soles had all the Wyndham guys second guessing from which angle he was going to tackle them as he attacked every contested ball. Coach Dave Regan asked our forwards to do everything within their power to get the ball across to Toby Crook for him to kick a goal, but unfortunately at the end of the game Crooky had only behinds on the board. Another genius move by supercoach Regan was to release Jason Gannon from the bench as the ball was free on the forward line, he kicked a beautiful ball forward to be snapped up and a goal kicked by Sammy Samason. It was a great opening game by the Panthers, leading at every change giving a very uniformed effort kicking 4 or 5 goals over three quarters and a single goal in the last quarter, that could have been another 4 goals but for some inaccurate kicking resulting in 5 behinds. Our 88 point victory is our biggest winning margin in 8 years so all players should be looking forward to a great season of footy. Thank you to Eileen Cooney for her first time runner duties with the Panthers hoping she can spend a long and happy association with the best club in FIDA footy. Victory celebrations were made all the better when a fabulous footy cake, (in Panther colours) made by Karen Morrison was brought into the rooms into the rooms for Dovo’s 100 game was devoured by all players in about 5 minutes. (Thanks Karen) Best Players: Simon Pollock (best on ground) Rod Pettit, John Soles, Sam Samason, Shaun Dux, Toby Crook, Justin Dovaston , Mark Vanderven and Aaron Yaksender. Goals: Simon Pollock 5, Justin Dovaston 3, Sam Samason 3, Rod Pettit, Aaron Yaksender, and Peter Biscognin all 1 each. MAZENOD PANTHERS BLACK SCRATCH MATCH. DAVE’S TEAM 5.9.39 drew with SHANES TEAM 6.3.39 With our first game on the day only allowing a maximum of 3 players on the bench this year, several of our players that arrived early were unable to be fitted into the first game, but in true team spirit Vickram Jholl, and John Hamilton volunteered to play in the second game.(thanks guys) Mazenod Panthers Black gained 4 premiership points because of the forfeit by Whyndam. Our Team leaders and other players from the first game stayed to give Mazenod Panthers Black team a scratch match, thanks to Simon Pollock, Justin Dovaston, Shaun Dux, Peter Biscognin, Toby Crook, Jason Gannon, Daniel Hassan, Josh Wallace, and Sam Samason. Rod Pettit would have played but he had to feed his new little boy. The pace was a cracker right from the start as both teams played as if premiership points were available, absolute team values were on show as several hand passes and kicks found their way to players not known for their goal kicking ability. Anthony DiStasio was a speed machine out of the centre circle, and John Hamilton was dictating the terms on the forward line. Accusations of foul play and deceit was running wild on the boundary line as Shane Regan desperately tried to keep up with the white hot magnetic board moves from Dave Regan. Vickram Jholl was a power of strength and unbeatable either up forward or down the back, while both the Nick’s, Crilly and DiStasio were welcoming their freedom up forward. Corey Pollock took time from his match report to make an impression on the game but had to leave the ground early in the second half because of muscle tightness. Best Players; John Hamilton, Vickram Jholl James Hosken, Daniel Palmer, Chris Johnson, Nick Mitroudis, Andrew Conner, George Youssef, Nick Crilly, Nick DiStasio,Jack Morrison,Corey Pollock, Matt Anderson, Anthony DiStasio, Neil McKinnon, David West, Roger Winter, and David Gorin Goals: James Hosken 2 Nick DiStasio 2, John Hamilton, Matt Anderson, Nick Crilly, Roger Winter, Corey Pollock George Youssef, David Gorin, and Anthony DiStasio all 1 goal each.
