New Zealand Development Stage I course
This course is designed for the coach, volunteer, parent or teacher involved with organising and
coaching primary, intermediate or secondary school students playing junior or youth cricket for
their school or club. The course is concerned mainly with ‘how’ and ‘what’ to coach a team
playing the conventional 11 a side game.
The Development Stage I is a practical course which runs for 3 hours during which time
coaches will be shown skill demonstrations and drills that they may find useful in the coaching
of the game.
Following the module coaches will be able to access information on the New Zealand Cricket
website to assist them in running better organised and targeted sessions for their cricket team.
Where are these courses run?
Your club has the services of a professional One Club cricket development officers who is
paid by Cricket Wellington to assist and grow coaching in the club. These staff are trained by
Cricket Wellington’s Coachforce personnel and will run a Development Stage I course at
your club.
The One Club cricket development officer will also assist where possible with support for the
coaching community at the club.
What is the cost and what do I need to bring?
There is a charge of $40.00 for the Development Stage I course and a further $50.00 for
coaches who choose to buy a hard copy of the Coaching a Cricket Team coaching manual
which is used by coaches extensively at this level.Coaches not wishing to buy this hard copy
manual can access the relevant sections of the manual on the NZC website. The access to the
website will be explained at the course.
Personal gear
Learner coaches will need to bring a pen, note paper, a drink bottle and dress appropriately for
the course as there is some physical activity involved.

The coaching session will usually run from 6.00pm – 9.00pm on a week night

attending a centralised course at one of Cricket Wellington’s indoor venues.
