The Woodstock Academy Announces Bergeron as PG Basketball Coach
WOODSTOCK, CT (March 31, 2017) –
Earlier in March The Woodstock Academy announced the launch of a Post Graduate Program to begin in Fall of 2017.
Today The Academy announced that Tony Bergeron will be the Head Coach of the Post Graduate Basketball Team.
Bergeron comes to The Woodstock Academy from Springfield Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, Massachusetts
where he successfully built a nationally-recognized basketball program from the ground up. He has a reputation for
developing high-quality programs at East Longmeadow and the MacDuffie School in Massachusetts, Wings Academy in
New York, and American Christian in Pennsylvania.
Bergeron will be a key part of The Academy’s emerging PG offerings as the Basketball Coach, but also in academic and
social support through mentorship.
Aaron Patterson, Athletic Director at The Woodstock Academy, spoke highly of Bergeron saying, “we could not find a
better coach or a better person to start a post-graduate basketball program than Tony Bergeron. With his connections
in the basketball world and his track record of building successful programs we are in a great position to have a top
level national program under his leadership.”
“My family and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to join The Woodstock Academy family” said Bergeron. “The
support from the administration already has been terrific and I haven't even arrived yet!”
“Woodstock Academy affords my whole family opportunities academically, athletically and professionally that can't be
rivaled in any of the places we have been before. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Commonwealth Academy and will
cherish the relationships built there for my entire life” said Bergeron.
It is clear that Bergeron will be a good fit for The Academy’s emerging program. Patterson added, “Coach Bergeron's
student-centered philosophy mirrors that of our school. He has spent his career helping student-athletes achieve their
goals and dreams placing hundreds of his players in college basketball. This is an exciting time at The Woodstock
Academy and Coach Bergeron and his program will add to that excitement.”
“It’s a perfect match,” said The Woodstock Academy Headmaster Christopher Sandford, “Bergeron’s emphasis on
developing the whole student-athlete pairs well with The Academy’s academic excellence and nurturing atmosphere.
Offering the Post Graduate Program with Bergeron on board will only enhance the environment and culture of The
Woodstock Academy.”
