MaxEva Manual

MaxEva Manual
This manual aims to help you with the online MaxEva-tool.
What is MaxEva and who is responsible for it
MaxEva is an interactive web tool that guides you in the evaluation and collection of monitoring data
of mobility management projects. It is based on the type of data generated by using MaxSumo
(http://epomm.eu/docs/1057/MaxSumo_english.pdf) for evaluation. However, you can also quite well
use the tool for evaluating projects in general. The big advantage above many other projects is the
standardisation and thus comparability with many other projects that use the same tool.
MaxEva was developed during the EU-project MAX and further developed in the framework of the
EPOMM-PLUS project and is now endorsed, maintained and further developed by EPOMM.
Start: first have a look!
We recommend you to have a look at one or two projects, by clicking on the map and further clicking
on measure result. Alternatively, go to the menu-point “Benchmark” and search for specific projects.
This is what your project will look like to the general public
Use Mouse-over!
The little buttons
contain explanations for the entry that you can view with „mouseover“,
when you go with the mouse over the button. On a click, it stays on the screen.
Mouse-over texts can be found in the annex of this manual!
Don’t forget to press the “Save” button on each page!
If you do not press it, then all the things you have filled in on that page will get lost. If you save it, you
should get the message “Form saved successfully!”. On some pages, you will be asked to fill in
obligatory fields that are marked with a star* .
Start: create a new project and start with „basic details“
 Go to the menu-point „Projects“ and create a new project. Pease make sure to name your project –
projects that leave the default name „New Project“ are automatically erased after one day.
 Start filling in the project data along the menu points, starting with basic data.
 Your contact information will only be available to persons that login into MaxEva
 Organisation: fill in your organisation or the organisation that is responsibe for MaxEva

Verbal description
Note: this will describe your project. Please make sure to fill this in as early as possible. You can
always modify it later.

Services provided
On the one hand, this provides a quick overview over the main content of your project.
On the other hand, when clicking on details, it shows you about 60 different services and might give
you one or two ideas on how to improve your project.
Overall goals
No special remarks, please fill in.
Target groups
The size of your target group is essential, as this number is used for most subsequent calculations.
More detailed target group info is only to provide an overview, it is not required to fill in.
Travel Behaviour
This menu-point is the centrepiece for calculating the effects for your project. This can only be done if
the input is correct and complete!
Default values
In order to simplify your tasks, many parts are automatically assumed with default values. But you can
always overrule these. The following is assumed by default:
 The Number of one way trips per week per person is 10 (typical commute: 5 workdays time the
two trips to and from the workplace)
 The Number of weeks per year the data is valid for is 47 (typical commute: 5 weeks of holiday)
 Trip distance is often unknown and in any case very hard to determine, most often they are
guesstimates. We provide the average values for a typical mid-size European city:
Car trip / Motorcycle trip
10 km
Walk trip
1 km
Bicycle trip
3 km
Public transport trip
6 km
 The trip distance values you fill in for the “before” survey are automatically assumed to be the
same in the “after” survey, the “long term” survey and in the control group surveys. If you like, you
can overrule them by manually filling in different values
 In case you use the control group method, the modal split values for the “before” control group are
automatically assumed to be the same as in the standard “before” group, you can also overrule
them
Other details
 In many surveys, “car passengers” are not detemined. In this case you must either assume a value
or assume an average car occupancy value.
 In many surveys “public transport” does not distinguish between bus, tram, metro and train. In this
case you must assume a value
 Survey details can be filled in but are exclusively for your own use. They are not published and
are only accessible for you and for the MaxEva administrators.
Services, Mobility Options and Effects (MaxSumo Levels)
Check MaxSumo (http://epomm.eu/docs/1057/MaxSumo_english.pdf) to understand what the levels
A-G mean.
Be sure to fill in the Description of reached system effects and the Lessons Learned, as they will
show up prominently in the public project description.

Project Promotion Activity
This section is mainly for documentation. Take care to press the button „Save“ before you leave the
page!
This part is not essential to fill out.
External factors
Information on external factors can be helpful to assess at least approximately the impact on the results
that are not due to your project – especially if you do not evaluate according to the control group
method.
This part is not essential to fill out.
Stage position
With this section, you are able to document attitudinal changes in your target group – according to a
segmentation method that recognises four stages – as developed in the MAX project. So far (April
2013) they have not been used in MaxEva. This part evidently is also not essential to fill out.
Annex
The annex contains all Mouseover texts and will be added in May 2013.
The (Draft) MaxEva Manual was created by EPOMM in April 2013 as part of the improvements for
the MaxEva tool made in the same month.
It will be completed in May 2013.
