A Note From Mrs. Pelc & Miss Lapp
How did we arrive in March already?
In February, we supported a great cause
with Jump Rope for Heart. Many of you
worked hard to raise money for the
American Heart Association. We also
enjoyed Cultural Arts Day, celebrated
Valentine’s Day, and had the 100th Day of
School! Phew! I’m exhausted just thinking
about it!
This week, be sure to make it to our
parent-teacher conferences on the 1st and
2nd. Remember, no school on Thursday,
March 2nd and Friday, March 3rd.
In March, we’ll have a visit from a
real author on March 7th. Come meet him
and learn all about what authors do. See
you at conferences!
day we played together. First, we went out
to the hall to have some fun. Next, we
walked into the gym. We talked a lot. Our
first activity was to make cookies. We put
butter on them, and decorated them with
colorful sugar. Next, we went to the
library, and I read a fun story. We also
made skeleton masks. We went to a place
and learned a dance. We tried some
Mexican food. It was delicious. It had
tomatoes, rice, and beans. We went to
P.E. Then we played stay away from the
Bole. Next, we went to the music room for
a dance. We got to hold Mexican money. It
was so cool! Then we learned another
dance. Finally, we went to a different
room and learned a dance. I got to play an
instrument, and we made flowers.

We made awesome marshmallow structures

Cultural Arts
We had a very exciting day on February
14th. It was Cultural Arts Day. We had the
best day we could ever have. The whole
We used Conversation Hearts to do many
activities on Valentine’s Day.

Cultural Arts Day
We learned about Cultural Arts
Day, and one of the ways we did it was by
decorating cookies. Also, we read a book
about Day of the Dead. Then we colored
skeletons. We also made flowers.

bands. We worked in partners to make
instruments. We did this, because we are
studying sounds and vibrations. That is why
we made instruments.
Daniel & Kaiden
Charlie and Landon enjoyed building a
bridge with 100 marshmallows!
Sound
We learned a lot about sound this month!
Making a Phone
We made a phone. We did it,
because we were having fun and trying to
hear sound or vibration. We made it with a
partner. We made it with our science book.
We used six to twelve feet of string, and
two cups. We tied knots with the string to
make it stay. The noise vibrates through
the string. We did this activity, because we
are learning about sounds in science. We
also did this, because we are creative.

Instruments
We can make instruments by taking
a box and wrapping rubber bands around
the box, so that you can make a guitar.
You can make this when you are back from
the store, and have a box and rubber
We did some experiments about
sound. We did some worksheets. We used
specific tools to learn about sound. It was
fun to learn about sound. We learned it in
February, and we learned it at science. We
learned that sound travels through solids,
liquids, and gasses. When we learned it in
science. We also watched the Magic School
Bus. We learned this, because we are
learning about sound waves and vibrations.

Adding Money
I learned about adding by counting
dollars and coins. We first learned how to
count cents. The biggest coin is the
quarter. The coin worth the least amount
is the penny. We always count starting
with the biggest coin or bill. We learned it,
because when we get older we have to
count money for real life.

Valentine’s Day
We learned that Valentine’s Day is
all about love. We did crafts, games, and
other stuff. This is how we did it. This is
how we built a craft. First, we wrote a
poem about love. Second, we glued a
picture of us onto the poem. Third, we
sent it home to our families. We did all of
this to have fun on Valentine’s Day,
practice our writing, and show love to our
families.

Emma enjoyed making an instrument!
Vowel Teams
We learned about long vowel
sounds. We read a President’s Day booklet,
and highlighted a word on each page that
had a vowel team on it. We learned more
vowel teams. We also learned the vowel
teams by listening to the different vowel
teams that make long /a/ or /o/ sounds.
We played a game where Miss Lapp read a
word, and if you were at the corner with
that vowel, then you were out. We learned
it, because knowing vowel teams will help
us become better readers.

We wrote poems on the 100th Day
Decorating for Literacy Night
We made monkeys to decorate for
literacy night. Literacy night is when you
meet an author of a book. We got different
shades of brown like light brown and dark
brown. We also hung monkeys in the hall.
We made the monkeys by coloring them
and cutting them out. I think making the
monkey was very fun.

Money
We learned about money. We
learned money at Calendar Math in
February. We learned how to count cents
first and bills second. You always count the
biggest to the least with money. We
learned it, because we need to learn how
to count money. When we grow up, we
need to count how much we need to
spend. We learned this by adding and
subtracting money. Also, we played games
to help us become better at counting
money. One of the games we played was
on the board. You drag the coins to make
the correct amount of money to buy the
item.
