Updated as of 2/29/16 AM 2016 HOMECOMING KING AND QUEEN ELIGIBILITY AND ESSAY RULES The Homecoming King & Queen petitioning process is organized and presented by the Purdue Student Union Board. Suggestions, questions, and interpretation of rules should be directed to the Homecoming Project Leader, Oluwafunmito Adubi; Homecoming Director, Melissa Kellner; or PSUB Program Advisor, Angelica McLean in PMU Room 268 or phone 765-494-8976. I. II. ELIGIBILITY A. Candidates must submit 10 copies of the official 2016 petition form, essay, and resume by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016 and deliver it to the Purdue Memorial Union Room 268. The form must be fully completed and typed. All forms may be downloaded at www.union.purdue.edu/studentevents under the resource tab. B. Candidate must be in good academic and disciplinary standing, i.e., has not been dismissed, suspended, or dropped from the University without thereafter having been readmitted C. Candidate must have at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.00 GPA system fall 2015 and Overall GPA AND a spring 2016 GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.00 GPA system. Court will not be official until Spring 2016 grades are released. If the candidate was not a full time student in either of these semesters, the grades will be used from the last semester that the candidate was enrolled full-time. D. Candidate must be a full-time student during the fall 2016 semester at the Purdue University West Lafayette campus, i.e. must be carrying at least 12 hours of credit. E. The individuals chosen to be on the Homecoming Court MUST participate in fall semester events for Homecoming and campus events including but not limited to Purdue After Dark presents Boiler Gold Rush, Activities Bonanza, Movie on the Hill, Homecoming King & Queen Breakfast, Night Train Parade, formal interviews, and the half-time ceremony at the football game. If the candidate is unable to attend any or all of these, the Purdue Student Union Board reserves the right to withdraw the candidate from participating and qualifying as a finalist. No representatives may be substituted for a candidate’s attendance. ATTACHMENTS A. Essays: Individuals choosing to apply for the 2016 Homecoming Court must submit one essay covering the following topic: Why are you proud to be a Boilermaker? What is your most rewarding Purdue experience and why? This essay will be judged by a panel of anonymous judges chosen by members of the Purdue Student Union Board. The essay must be typed, in 12-point, Times New Roman font, on white paper, with a minimum of one page (maximum two pages), double spaced. If these rules are not followed, the essay will not be valid and the candidate will no longer be considered for court. Updated as of 2/29/16 AM III. B. Resume: The candidate’s resume must be no longer than one page and typed on plain white paper. Candidate may not turn in a cover letter or references with the resume. C. Activities: On a separate page, candidates must submit a list of activities (including a positions held and descriptions of responsibilities) that they participated in during the 2015-2016 school year. D. Scholarships: Candidate must list all scholarships that they have received while they have been attending University. COURT SELECTION A. All candidates will receive final notification by e-mail on Monday, May 16, 2016. The finalists will be posted on the Purdue Student Union Board’s website on Monday, June 3, 2016 to: www.union.purdue.edu/PSUB B. Selection of the court will be based on the candidate’s essay, resume, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement * NOTE * Each candidate is required to make 10 copies of ALL documents to be provided to each of the 10 judges. This means there should be 10 copies individually paper clipped together, including a petition form, essay, list of activities, and resume. All documents must be completed, typed, and returned to the PSUB office, Room 268 of the Purdue Memorial Union by 5pm on Monday, March 28, 2016. If you are selected to be a part of the 2016 official Homecoming Court you will have the following required financial expenses: a registration fee of $90.00, and a photography sitting fee of $100.00. Additional expenses for individual campaign marketing (t-shirts, posters, etc.) are optional, but a candidate’s total expenses, excluding the photography sitting fee and registration fee, may not exceed $500.00. Please note the $500.00 cap does not include the $90 registration fee and $100 photography sitting fee.
