FY16 Training
Infant Feeding
Using the Infant Meal Pattern Menu form on the back, complete the menu for Johnny Smith (date of birth:
1/24/2015) for the week of September 21 – 25, 2015, given the following information:
Your mealtimes are as follows:
Breakfast 7:30 am – 8:30 am
Lunch 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
P.M. Snack 2:30 pm – 3:00 pm
You supply Enfamil formula and Gerber iron-fortified infant rice cereal. Johnny’s mother supplies breast milk, but
would like you to supplement with formula if needed. She also does not want to start Johnny on rice cereal or
crackers until Johnny is 8 months old. She has introduced Johnny to bananas and applesauce at home and brings both
for you to serve to Johnny at lunch.
Monday, 9/21
Johnny arrives at 7:00 am. His mother drops him off with 3 bottles of 6 ounces of breast milk each. She also brings
one banana for you to mash up for lunch. At 8:00 am, you offer Johnny a 6-ounce bottle. He drinks 5 ounces. At 9:00
am, you offer Johnny the remaining 1 ounce in his bottle and he finishes it, then he falls asleep. At 11:30 am, Johnny
drinks a six ounce bottle and 1 T. of mashed banana. While you begin to prepare Johnny’s last bottle, he falls asleep
and is still sleeping when his mom picks him up at 4:15pm. She asks that you keep the bottle for the next day.
Wednesday, 9/23
Johnny arrives at 7:10 am. His mother drops him off with 3 bottles of 4 ounces of breast milk each. She also brings a
jar of applesauce. At 8:30 am, you offer Johnny a 6-ounce bottle (the one left from Monday). He falls asleep after
drinking 4 ounces. Johnny wakes at 11:00 am and you immediately offer him the remaining 2 ounces from his
morning bottle, which he drinks right down plus two of the 4 ounce bottles his mom left for him. You offer a bite of
the applesauce, but Johnny refuses it. At 2:45 pm, you offer Johnny his last 4 ounce bottle and he falls asleep after
drinking 2 ounces. Johnny’s mom picks him up at 4:30 pm and takes the remaining 2 ounces in the bottle with her.
Friday, 9/25
Johnny arrives at 9:15 am. His mother tells you that he just fell asleep in the car. She leaves 2 bottles of 4 ounces of
breast milk each and a banana for him. When Johnny wakes at 11:00 am, you offer him a 4 ounce bottle and 2 T. of
mashed banana. He drinks the entire bottle and eats the banana. At 12:00 pm, Johnny is fussy, so you offer the other
4 ounce bottle and he drinks it. Johnny’s mother picks him up early at 2:30 pm.
