Claygate Royals Football Club Interactive Session Plan Team/ Age Group U11 Hares Session Date 05/12/2014 Topic Passing Coach Nick Ford Technique / Skill 3 v 1 Keep Ball Depending on numbers this drill can have 4 squares, each square will have a 3 v 1 inside. Defender moves to next grid when won the ball Pass + Move, create angles to receive Quick tempo Defenders try to win the ball as quick as they can. Function/ Phase Technical session – Developing quick play 40 x 40 grid 4v4 Ball feed from coach, in order to score team must make 1 touch pass into the target players. GK can be used to keep possession. Encourage movement from target players, look for pockets of space and identify when to play quickly into the target players. Progression – T’s combine with each other before passing back, can shoot at goal after combining with T’s. Could limit number of touches target player has. Small Sided Game/ SSG Opposing styles of play – SSG 1st team will set up to play possession football and play across the pitch to target men. This game uses a 30 x 30 middle area in which a 4 v 4 takes place, the possession team have use of the GK’s to keep possession, the counter attack team have to work hard to win the ball back and then be direct in attacking either goal. Focus on transition and reactions from defence to attack. 2nd team adopt counter attack style, when they win the ball back they attack either goal as quick as they can. Possession Team – Angles to receive - Body shape - Team shape - Transition when defending Counter Team – High pressure - Team pressure - Quick transition - Be direct 4 games of 3 mins then swap other. Learning Outcomes Technical Ability to transition from defence to attack Choosing the right pass Holding up the ball waiting for support Getting bodies forward with good runs Social Communication with teammates Asking for the ball in specific areas Transition in numbers Psychological Can I be direct? Exploit space with penetration How can I affect the game? Possession in good areas Physical High pressure from counter attack team Lots of movement to receive in good areas Match specific session High tempo Session Evaluation What went well? The counter attack team, had to establish a way of winning the ball back as they had less numbers, once they had won the ball, they attacked with pace and with numbers and managed to get shots away on numerous occasions. Even better if? The target men where used in this session and they remained limited to their channels, this does not replicate a match situation and therefore would have been even better if they had been integrated in the main area. Changes for next session? Next session I would still use the end channels but would not limit players to the channels, I would say that the possession based team must work the ball from end to end by receiving it in the channel. Hopefully this would create movement to receive as the ball is being played, rather than the pass coming into a static player in the channel.
