Visiting Stamford defeated the Westlane Spartans 8-0 Friday afternoon. They are an unbelievable group of kids and they’ve worked hard all year,” Stamford coach Brad Martin said. “For a team that most of the players have never played before, we finished the season right and I’m very happy for them, especially my 12Bs (second-year Grade 12s).” One of those 12Bs, 18-year-old Chris Loach, was thrilled to get a victory. “It’s nice to get a W and it was against our rival,” said Loach, who had an 11-yard run and a 35-yard reception in the game. “It’s tough that Stamford football might be over soon, but I am trying to get to the next level.” He will miss his teammates. “We’re a family out there,” he said. Martin was happy with the first season of NRHSAA league play and expects to see some teams move up to Division 1 and some teams move down to Division 2. “Some schools are continuing to grow and some are getting smaller and that’s the fluctuating nature of sports,” he said. Westlane fell to 1-6 with the loss. 11/4/2016 11:45 PM Hornets win first game, Myer remains unbeaten | Fort Erie Times 2 of 3 http://www.forterietimes.ca/2016/11/04/hornets-win-first-game-myer-re... “We had a poor week of practice and it showed in the game,” Spartans coach Jason Babony. He was happy with his squad’s regular season. “The scores didn’t always indicate how competitive the games were, but I was really happy with the season,” Babony said. “I think it’s going to even out in the next couple of years, I know Myer is a powerhouse, but hopefully we can get some of our recruits. Hopefully the feeder schools kids come to our school and we’ve got a good group of juniors coming up. I am expecting big things from them next year.” Westlane and Stamford are both awaiting the word on what the tiebreaker is for the final playoff spot.
