Theme. MEET MY FRIEND
Objectives: to practice vocabulary on the topic; to develop pupils’ ability of using
their knowledge in new situations; to stimulate communication; to activate pupils’
thinking abilities; to discover moral value of friendship through varied creative
activities.
Equipment: songs, cards, illustrations.
PROCEDURE
Teacher: Good morning dear friends! I am very glad to see you. And what about
you?
Pupils: Good morning, good morning, good morning to you…
Teacher: Dear friends, do you like English lessons?
Pupils: Yes, we do.
Teacher: When do you have your English lessons?
Pupils: We have English on …
Teacher: That’s right. But it is not a lesson today. It’s a meeting of good friends
who can speak English, sing English songs, play and dance together. Let us have a
party of good friends.
(The telephone is ringing)
Teacher: Nazar, pick up the receiver, please.
(Two friends are speaking on the phone)
Sashko: Hello, are you Nazar Mymryk?
Nazar: Yes, I am and who are you?
Sashko: I am Sashko Hut. I am your pen-friend. I am in your village now. I want
to see you.
N. I want to see you too. What do you look like?
S. I am tall. My hair is dark. My eyes are grey. I have an oval face, rosy cheeks and
thin lips. And what do you look like?
N. I am fair-haired boy. My face is round. I have blue eyes and turned-up nose.
S. What have you on?
N. I have a green shirt and jeans on. And what have you on?
S. I have a white shirt and black trousers on.
N. Where are you now?
S. I am near school.
N. All right.
(There is a knock at the door)
Teacher: Come in, please. (Nobody comes in).
Teacher: Children, let’s say “Come in” all together.
Pupils: Come in, please, come in.
(Sashko enters)
Sashko: Good morning!
Children: Good morning!
Nazar: Meet my pen-friend Sashko.
Children: Nice to meet you.
Nazar: Sashko, this is my teacher. These are my classmates. Make yourself at
home.
Sashko: Thank you.
Teacher: Children, do you want to know more about Sashko? You may ask him
with a song.

Pupils: Thank you Sashko.
Sashko: And now, Nazar I would like to know more about your friends and their
families.
(3-4 pupils are telling about their families using photos)

Teacher: Sashko, do you like our song?
Sashko: Yes, very much.
Teacher: Thank you, children. Dear friends, do you like to play games? Now let’s
play a guessing game.
Game “Birthday”
Teacher: One of you has a birthday today. Guess who is it?
Pupils: Is it a boy or a girl? What colour is his / her hair? Is his / her hair long or
short? Is he / she thin or plump? etc.
Song “Happy Birthday to You”
Teacher: And now let’s play a game “The Girl is Lost”.
There must be a policeman, a mother, and a father.
(Parents asks the policeman for help)
Parents: Help us to find our daughter, please.
Policeman: What is your daughter’s name?
Mother: Her name is Ira.

description is right – the girl is found)

my new friends.
Teacher: Dear boys and girls! Before saying Good-bye I want to tell you that there
is an English proverb “A man is known by the company he keeps” (Скажи, хто
твій друг, і я скажу, хто ти). I see you are good friends. So your hometask for
the next lesson is to describe your best friend and explain why you have chosen
him or her.
