COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER www.mimi.school.co.nz Merry Christmas! Happy holidays Everyone! What a great send-off last night for the Year 6 group, Indiana Nash-Gillett, Caleb Hollows, and Zed Stewart-Cranson, who are off to Manukorihi, and Lucy Blyde, off to Sacred Heart. We wish them well for the future and know their time at Mimi will stand them in good stead as they grow their wings to fly. Anyone who attended the Manu final assembly will have seen how well Mimi school was represented in the awards. Also leaving us are Maia Stewart-Cranson, and Lucas Hollows, to Tikorangi, and Annie Mattock to Ahititi in 2016. We will miss them too as they grow into a new community. Good luck to you all. The senior class has been moving into their new room during this week and I’m sure they will enjoy the change next year. There is still work to be done over the summer holidays with the toilet block to be relocated and landscaping finished. Term 4 was busy. We had a wonderful Pet Day on 16th October– a Friday for a change, and enjoyed a full attendance of students. Our kids also did well at the Tainui Pet Day the following week. The Education Review team (ERO) visited us after Labour Day, and we have received an excellent report on the quality of the teaching and learning here. The final report should be on the web in January. As well, this term we had Marta coming in to take Spanish in the senior room, along with Whaia Tiri and AnneMaree McClutchie working with the school on Marae protocols and te reo, in preparation for our Marae Stay in week 7. Being able to stay down at Pukearuhe Marae as a whole school was very worthwhile, and a learning experience for the children. We had amazing support from the school families, and I hope Mimi will go there again. December 2015 Walking the trap-line across the White Cliffs stretched one or two of us – well, one of us anyway! And I didn’t really need the ride in the ute along the beach, but didn’t like to refuse such a kind gesture! Thankyou as a community also for supporting our Gala Day. It was very successful, taking over $10,000 in spite of the rain. Grateful thanks to Alex Nash and the Gala Committee for their great organisation. We were also delighted that Frances and Murray Butler won the major raffle prize! Well-deserved. This is my final newsletter before handing the reins over to Andrew Birchler in February. He is really looking forward to leading the school into the future, and I am sure you will support him as you have me. It was a privilege and pleasure to lead Mimi for the last two terms and now I will put lots of energy into caravanning around DOC campsites and learning to create photo books on-line! Arohanui and best wishes for a merry Christmas and a very safe and happy New Year.
