Voting: Rusty Eggen discussed voting procedures and coaches voted for Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award. After the Player and the Pitcher of the Year were announced and placed on the first team, the coaches voted for the all conference team. Results listed below. Review of Championship Tournament: Coaches were exceptionally pleased with the new double elimination format. Coaches felt the language in the NEWMAC handbook regarding hosting Day 3 and Day 4 of the tournament needed to be clarified. The handbook currently states that the highest remaining seed on each day will host. This year the highest remaining seed (#1 seed) was eliminated at the end of Day 3 and Day 4 game(s) was hosted by the #2 seed. The coaches felt the host site should remain consistant through both Day 3 and Day 4 games. Motion: Clarify language in the NEWMAC handbook to state: the highest remaining seed going into Day 3 of the NEWMAC Baseball double elimination tournament will host games on Day 3 and Day 4 even if they are eliminated from the tournament on Day 3. Vote: 5-0 in favor BABSON CLARK COAST GUARD MIT MOUNT HOLYOKE SMITH SPRINGFIELD WELLESLEY WHEATON WPI Discussion ensued regarding start time for the first game on Day 3 of the tournament which is currently 9:30am. The coaches agreed we can't move the start time up but are concerned about getting all games in on Day 3 if a game goes to extra innings for example. Motion: Coaches recommend Day 3 and Day 4 of the NEWMAC double elimination tournament that games begin 45 minutes after the completion of the previous game and teams adjust BP accordingly. If one team felt they needed the full time allocated between games it would be granted. Vote: 5-0 in favor Review of Regular Season There were no significant issues during the regular season this year. However, there was again discussion regarding a third conference game to provide more emphasis on conference play. Adding a third game would enhance the importance of conference play, reduce the number of tie-breakers needed and give more teeth to seeding for the tournament. Coaches were not concerned about reducing non-conference games by going to an 18 game regular season schedule. Regarding the potential concern of completing the conference schedule by adding games, coaches noted they did not use their rain date this year and all completed the conference schedule without losing many non-conference games. Coaches agreed the three games do not need to be played in a row. Motion: Coaches recommend to move to a three game regular season series (18 NEWMAC contests).
