The ReConnect Street Intervention Program is part of the YMCA. They have been providing short term and long term assistance for several years, through outreach to youth and adults who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Through immediate charitable action and work to help individuals develop choices and approaches in their life that will help them be more self sufficient. ReConnect partners with downtown merchants, community organizations and local churches to ensure that overall community needs are being addressed as well as the needs of those they are helping. ReConnect often meets individuals and families at times of crisis, so they are addressing issues with food, safe housing, employment and counseling. The downtown churches gather monthly with ReConnect to receive updates on their interventions, hear about services and resources available and consider ways that we can be of assistance. The Christmas Season will come to an end with the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. A word of appreciation and sincere thanks to all those who prepared the church, served in their various ministries throughout the season, and who have given so generously with their time, talent and treasure. There is so much generosity here at St. Bernard's and each and every act will be blessed and rewarded by the Lord. Special thanks to those of the Pastoral Care Team who ministered to the shut ins, sick at home, nursing homes, and the hospital. At this time of year the impact of poor health can be so troubling that having a call, a visit or receiving Holy Communion means so much. On a personal note, I wish to say thank you to all those who have remembered me personally, through the many cards, good wishes, prayers, treats, gifts and kindnesses galore. I speak for the entire staff and acknowledge the many treats brought to the office. Heartfelt thanks! God Bless. Fr. Allison S. Carroll Many thanks from both Father Broderick and Father Toner To all who thought of them with their kindness of cards, treats, and gifts during the Christmas Season. Sincere thanks 50th World Day of Peace - January 1, 2017 The World Day of Peace was established by Pope Paul VI in 1968 who asked that "every year, this commemoration be repeated as a hope and as a promise, at the beginning of the calendar which measures and outlines the path of human life in time, that Peace with its just and beneficent equilibrium may dominate the development of events to come." Each year has a specific theme chosen by the Holy Father. First Saturday of the Month Mass will be celebrated at the St. Bernard Church January 7 at 9:30 AM. Doors open at 8:30. Rosary at 9:05. All are welcome. Hospice Greater Moncton is a registered charity established in 2004 seeking to: promote awareness about life-limiting illnesses and end-of-life issues, provide support services to those with a life-limiting illnesses, provide grief and bereavement support services and to raise financial support to establish a residential hospice in Moncton, New Brunswick. Our services are free and confidential. They are available to those living in Greater Moncton, the Tantramar region, and outlying rural areas. Their programs are available to anyone facing end of life issues. This can be you, a family member, or a friend. You can be referred by a health professional, or self- refer for your own care or that of a loved one. Hospice Moncton is proud to work in conjunction with the New Brunswick Hospice Palliative Care Association, the Extra-Mural program and family physicians. Community Palliative Care: Hospice palliative care focuses on the dignity and comfort of the dying person rather than on the aspect of incurable disease. Volunteer visitors can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals. They pass screening and confidentiality requirements and receive detailed training to national standards of care. They are supportive, open and non-judgmental listeners. Our coordinator will visit and match you with a volunteer with shared interests. The volunteer will visit in your home, and provide social, emotional and practical support, such as: provide companionship, offer a compassionate listening ear, and share in meaningful activities. During weekly visits, this support may include drives to appointments or for an outing, reading, baking favorite foods, listening, talking, playing cards, music, and quiet support as death nears. Caregiver Care: The Hospice volunteer plays a vital role in providing care to patients in their own homes when their caregivers require time away from home to attend to personal matters. Bereavement Care: Our Coping with Grief groups provide a safe, supportive and healing environment for adults living with grief to explore their feelings of loss. Facilitated by a compassionate leader in a small group setting, you can speak or just listen. This free program may help you make sense of the feelings and changes you are experiencing following the death of a loved one. Discussion topics may include: Sharing of grief loss with pictures and stories, discussion on grief and the journey it takes us on, & what are our loved ones thoughts and wishes for us? Grief and spirituality: The grief group helps you through the heavy process of grieving with people who get it. Become A Volunteer: Volunteer at Hospice Greater Moncton and become one of the caring volunteers who are truly making a difference! It’s fun, interesting and you get to work with some of the nicest people! You will go home each day knowing you have made a difference in someone’s quality of life.
