Akron Area YMCA Job Description Job Title: FLSA Status: Reports to: Summer Day Camp Director Seasonal, Non-Exempt Summer Director Date: Updated 08/2013 Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Summer Camp Director, the Day Camp Director is responsible for the safe operation and instruction of all day camp activities in accordance with camp policies. The Day Camp Director supervises 1) 15-25 part-time staff, 2) scheduling of activities, 3) evaluating staff, 4) check-in and check-out, and 5) evaluation of the program. The Day Camp Director will also provide the proper planning, execution and evaluation of the day-to-day programmatic and logistical operations of the Summer Day Camp programs for Camp Y-Noah. Essential Functions: 1. Participate in pre-camp training and planning process. 2. Responsibility for the safety and well-being of all campers and staff throughout the camp program. 3. Abide by all Camp Y-Noah and Akron YMCA Policies and Procedures, as well as standards set forth by the American Camp Association (ACA) or other camp governing bodies. 4. Supervision of campers and Counselors during all water activities and specialty programs. 5. Assigning groups for all day campers and staff. 6. Evaluation of Counselors in a constructive way, giving and listening to any feedback. 7. Organizing and insuring a high level of standards in all activities, themes, meals and specialty programs. 8. Establishes and implements methods of staff motivation during the summer months. 9. Assist peers with various responsibilities. 10. Evaluation of the camp program with weekly evaluations and by gaining feedback from parents and campers weekly. 11. Assists with urgent behavioral needs of day campers. 12. Run an organized and efficient check-in and check-out to help parents and campers. 13. Organize snack. 14. Facilitate all pre-camp interactions for day campers and parents. 15. Maintain all paperwork pertinent to the job. It should be understood that this Job Description has been developed as an outline for basic responsibility. Qualifications: The Day Camp Director must be a minimum of 21 years of age. She/he must bring to this position an educational background suited to the requirements of the position, as well as an understanding and value orientation to the Christian principles of the Akron Area YMCA and Camp Y-Noah. The Day Camp Director must be ambitious with outstanding organizational, human relations, and programming skills. Physical Demands: This position would require the ability to listen to others, observe others actions, read text and information, comprehend instructions and manuals, physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions. Performance Objectives: In order to guide Camp Y-Noah to becoming a premier camp, the Day Camp Director must possess superb skills in coordinating the proper planning, execution and documentation of summer day camp programs.
