Junior Football
Regan started playing structured football aged 5 at our local government football coaching school, and also at the
Brazillian Soccer School (Futsal) that was being run in our area.
He joined his 1st local league club aged 8 (Handley Wood JFC) which played in the top division of the Sheffield Junior
Sunday League (Largest Junior League in Europe).
Regan played with them until he was 12, enjoying his football, and regularly winning Player of the Season & Managers
Player of the Season.
Regan played every position at this level, including Goalkeeper, but was mainly used in a defensive role.
Regan also contributed between 12 to 25 goals a season at this level.
Regan was scouted by Sheffield United aged 12 by Dave Doxey, and was offered a 6 week trial.
Regan signed on at Sheffield United Academy after 2 weeks of the trial at the end of the U13 season aged 12.
Academy Football
Regan started every game he was available for with his own age group at Sheffield United Academy.
Regan regularly was played 1 age group up.
Regan played for Sheffield United u18's aged 14.
Regan was a regular starter for Sheffield United U16's at the age of 14 (mainly Right Back).
Regan was the starting Centre Back at Sheffield United U16's from the age of 15 and played every game he was
available for.
Unfortunately, Regan himself was unhappy at Sheffield Unted Academy and wasn't enjoying his football there, and he
himself asked to leave.
After 4 meetings with the Academy Directors etc, Sheff Utd reluctantly agreed to release Regan, and circulate his
details to local professional clubs within the travelling time limit.
After 5 days, Regan had received 12 offers of trials or Scholarship/Apprenticeships from English clubs ranging from
Championship to League 2.
Regan trained at 7 of these clubs to see how he liked them, and eventually decided on Chesterfield FC due to its
proximity to us, and the future plan they had in place for Regan. (Regans elder brother Jordan is a professional
footballer currently playing in Iceland and had been an Apprentice at Chesterfield FC. Head of Youth Dave Bentley had
wanted to sign Regan since U14's and had made this clear to us. When Regan went to train at Chesterfield in
November 2011(aged 15) to have a look around, he trained for a week with the 1st team and was made to feel part of
the club. This made Regans mind up.)
Regan signed for Chesterfield FC in December 2011, aged 15 as an Chesterfield FC U16 player and as a 2 year
Football Apprentice starting July 2012.
Regan made 10 appearances for Chesterfield FC U16's all at Centre Back.
Regan made 3 appearances for Chesterfield Reserves aged 15 all as a substitute.
Football Apprenticeship
1st Year
Regan started his Apprenticeship at Chesterfield FC in July 2012.
Regan was the starting Right Back for the Youth Team from September 2012 (He had an ankle injury in pre-season and
missed 5 weeks).
Regan started every game he was available for with the Youth Team from this point.
Regan played 35 games for the Youth Team in his 1st year scoring 0 goals but assisting 9 times.
Regan played 11 times for the Reserves at Chesterfield FC this season at both Right Back & Centre Back, starting and
playing the whole of the last 9 games, scoring 0 goals but assisting 3 times.
2nd Year
Chesterfield FC terminated their Reserve Team
After the whole of the Youth Team Staff set up was sacked by the new manager Paul Cook in May 2013 (Dave Bentley,
Mark Jules, Jon Dungworth, Andy Morris and many others), an entire new Youth Management Team came in led by
Gerry Carr - Head of Youth (Sligo Rovers Youth) & Mark Smith - Youth Team Manager (Sheff Wednesday Academy,
Sheff Utd Academy, Barnsley Academy).
Regan was named captain of the Youth Team in July 2013.
Regan led the team on 2 week tour to Holland in July/August 2013.
Regan played every game he was available for at Centre Back during this season.
Regan was asked if he would relinquish the captaincy in October 2013, as he didn't need it, and the coaching staff
believed it would aid the development of a fellow Youth Team player to have the responsibilty.
In November 2013 after a Youth Team meeting at Chesterfield FC, it came to light that none of the 2nd year
apprentices were likely to get a professional deal, as the manager Paul Cook had told the club that he wanted a total
clearance of all the current Youth Set Up when he arrived, and that included the players that were in the Youth Team at
the time. This has since been confirmed by Board Member of the club.
In Januray 2014, Regan was offered the chance by Chesterfield FC to be the 1st ever outfield Apprentice to go on loan
from the Youth Team to Rainworth MWFC of the Evostik Northern Premier League Division 1 South.
Regan jumped at the chance to play competitive mens football at a very good level and signed on loan until the end of
the season.
Regan continued training at Chesterfield FC Monday to Friday, and also with Rainworth on Monday, Tuesday &
Thursday evenings.
Regan only played twice more for Chesterfield FC in midweek friendlies against Leicester City FC & Notts County FC
starting at Centre Back both times.
In his 2nd year, Regan played 21 games for the Youth Team, scoring 6 times and assisting 5 times.
Regan was told his contract would not be renewed on April 24th 2014 by the Youth Team Manager. Every single one of
the 2nd Year Apprentices was released on this day.
