PRODUCT INFORMATION SHEET
PRODUCT:
GUARDIAN ANTI GRAFFITI PRIMER
Product Code: GAGPPI
Issue Date: January 2015
Description
An Acrylic solvent resistant Primer with excellent adhesion to bare timber, bricks, concrete, fibro cement, masonry,
suitably prepared metal surfaces, wall boards and pre-painted surfaces. It has the advantages of low odour, quick
drying, easy application and water clean up.
Uses
Primer for Guardian Anti Graffiti Coating.
Application
Stir well before and during use with a broad paddle. Apply 1 even coat of Guardian Anti Graffiti Primer to achieve a
maximum dry film thickness of 20 microns. NB do not attempt to apply a thick film build, as the solvents in the top
coat will react with the primer and affect its overall performance eg. the finish coat will not achieve its true hardness or
chemical resistance and will break down on application of Guardian Graffiti Remover.
Weather Conditions
Air and surface temperature must be above 10C during application and drying time.
Specification Sheets
Before application refer to the corresponding Material Safety Data Sheets GAGPMSDS.
Coverage
Varies with porosity of substrate. Approx 10m2 /lt on unsealed brick and masonry surfaces.
Approx 14m2/lt on smooth surfaces.
Dry Times:
20 minutes touch dry
90 minutes hard dry
Recoat: 12-24hrs with Guardian Anti Graffiti Coating
Thinning
Not usually required. On very absorbent surfaces and under hot conditions dampen the surface and thin the first coat up to
10% with water.
Wash Up:Water Care Of New Paintwork: Avoid exposure to steam and condensation for 48hrs after painting.
Shelf Life: 18 months in closed containers
SURFACE PREPARATION
Previously Painted Surfaces
No priming required if painting a sound painted surface (previoulsy painted with Guardian Anti Graffiti coating). To test
painted surfaces, cut through the existing paint with a razor blade, press cellulose tape firmly across the cut and then rip the
tape off. If the old paint comes off it should be removed. Scrape off all loose and flaking paint, remove any existing
graffiti with Guardian Graffiti Remover, wash vigorously with detergent, water and a stiff brush or high pressure clean.
Mould and mildew should be removed with household bleach mixed 3:1 with water. Fill cracks etc. with a suitable filler,
sand all surfaces to a smooth flat finish and dust down. Seal filled or bare surfaces with the appropriate sealer or primer.
Lightly sand gloss and semi gloss surfaces, dust off. Apply one light coat of Guardian Anti Graffiti Primer (20microns
DFT max) to the whole surface and allow to dry 12-24hrs.

Painted Metal Signs
Wash down with detergent, water and a stiff brush to remove all loose material. Apply one light coat of Guardian Anti
Graffiti Primer Clear (20microns DFT max) to prevent any reaction between the finish coat and the existing coating .
Brick, Stone Masonry
Remove any existing graffiti with Guardian Graffiti Remover. Wash down with detergent, water and a stiff brush or high
pressure water clean to remove all loose material, (take care not to damage the mortar), allow to dry. Apply one light coat
of Guardian Anti Graffiti Primer (20microns DFT max) and allow to dry 12-24hrs
New Timber
Fill nail holes or cracks with a flexible acrylic wood filler, lightly sand all surfaces smooth, dust off, and apply one light
coat of Guardian Anti Graffiti Primer (20microns DFT max) and allow to dry 12-24hrs. Where a clear finish is required,
use a wood filler as near as possible to the timber colour.
Colorbond/Zincalume/New Galvanised Surfaces
Remove oil and grease by washing with a solvent degreaser, wipe clean. Lightly sand smooth shiny surfaces, dust off and
apply one light coat of Guardian Anti Graffiti Primer (20microns DFT max) and allow to dry 12-24hrs.
Unpainted Concrete
Allow 4-6 weeks for new concrete to dry before painting.
If concrete has a dense smooth finish, it should be acid etched. Dilute 4 parts water with 1 part Hydrochloric Acid (Spirits
of Salts or Muriatic Acid, at least 32% strength). Add the acid to the water, never the reverse, mix well with a wooden
stick. This acid mixture is corrosive, wear gloves and eye protection. Apply about 1 litre per 3 sq.metres of concrete with a
stiff broom. Wet all the surface thoroughly and watch that they fizz and bubble. Any areas which do not wet or react
should be washed with a weak solution of household detergent and retreated. After the reaction has ceased but before the
concrete has dried out, rinse the section thoroughly with detergent, water and a nylon scrubbing brush or high pressure
clean, make sure all loose material is removed. Apply one light coat of Guardian Anti Graffiti Primer and allow to dry.
Safety
Keep out of reach of children. Provide adequate ventilation. Do not pour left over paint down the drain. Keep unwanted
paint in sealed containers for disposal via special waste collection.
First Aid
Eye contact: Rinse with plenty of running water and seek medical advice if irritation persists. If swallowed: Drink plenty
of water and seek medical help.
The statements above are compiled from our field of production and according to the latest technological developments and application techniques.

FIRST AID PROCEDURES
INGESTION
If
person is conscious and ingested a small dose- do not induce vomiting, give water to drink amd rinse mouth thoroughly.
For large dose ingestion- induce vomiting and seek medical attention.
EYE
Hold eyelids open and rinse the eye continuously with a gentle stream of clean running water for at least fifteen minutes.
Seek medical attention.

a moisturising hand cream, if available. Seek medical attention if any soreness or inflammation of the skin persists or
develops later. Launder affected clothing before re-use.
INHALATION
Remove to fresh air. Keep warm and at rest. If breathing is laboured, hold in a half upright position (this assists
respiration). Apply artificial respiration if breathing has stopped. Seek medical attention.
NEVER GIVE AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON ANYTHING TO DRINK NOR ATTEMPT TO INDUCE VOMITING.
PRECAUTIONS OF USE
ENGINEERING CONTROL
Do not inhale vapours. Ensure good ventilation (dilution and local exhaust) in storage and use. Where there is large scale
use of this material, local exhaust ventilation with or without process enclosure may be necessary. Supply sufficient
replacement air to make up for air removed by exhaust systems. The exhaust extract must be directed outside the building
and at a point 1.25 times the building height to avoid fume re-entry.
PERSONAL PROTECTION
EYE/FACE PROTECTION
Chemical safety goggles with side shields or face shield.
SKIN PROTECTION
Protective gloves-PVC or rubber
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
Respiratory protection is unlikely to be required for normal use but if inhalation risk exists wear an organic
vapour/particulate respirator complying to the requirements of AS/NZS 1715 and AS/NZS 1716.
N.B. TAKE THE LIMITS OF ABSORPTION CAPACITY INTO ACCOUNT. CHANGE FILTERS REGULARLY.
