WHS Curriculum Strategy 2016 William Harding School Curriculum Strategy 2016 Contents Empowering Confident, self-aware and Resilient Learners WHS Curriculum Strategy 2016 Introduction His strategy sets out an ambitious future for outstanding learning and teaching through our curriculum at William Harding. It will ensure that our staff and children are well paced to take their position in society in the future. Empowering Confident, self-aware and Resilient Learners WHS Curriculum Strategy 2016 This strategy maps out the next stage of our journey. Following a rigorous curriculum review we will begin a new curriculum in September 2016. Our curriculum will encourage enquiry based project learning. Our strategy places the children at the heart of all we do and the basis of our thinking. We place particular emphasis on growth mind-set, facilitating learning through philosophy for children (P4C), RRSA and reading for pleasure. We must recognise as an organisation and educational setting that the educational landscape is very different from when we first embarked on our journey. We must maximise our potential given that over the next few years we will see: Digital technologies changing and revolutionising what we do and how we do it at every level in school Innovative use of resources will appear, public sector funding continues to reduce Increased population and requirements for school places Demand patterns changing, as there will be greater diversity and choice in educational settings for our children and families Our primary aim over the last 2 years has been to provide an outstanding learning experience for our children. We are still on a journey and a new strategy and curriculum approach will help us to achieve this. We will continue to attract and support in their development, the very best practitioners, so that our children always experience the very best teaching. We will continue to strengthen our partnerships with other schools and agencies, increasing the range of links we have within the community. We will endeavour to establish an outstanding and innovative primary education for the children in our community and support them to have high aspirations for their future. Key Priorities Our Priorities for the next 3 years are: 1. Outstanding outcomes for all our children through an innovative mastery curriculum 2. WHCS provision on offer to a wider community Key Priority 1 Outstanding outcomes for all our children through an innovative mastery curriculum Ambition for next 3 years Achievement at the end of each year group for all groups of learners despite their starting points will be above expected progress. We will achieve this through Outstanding teaching across the whole school High quality tracking and intervention at every stage of their learning journey. Providing role models for aspirations and throughout our curriculum encouraging high aspiration and a language of scholarship Key Priority 2 To ensure we have confident, self-aware and resilient learners Ambition for next 3 years Children at WHCS have confidence with their learning, are not afraid to make mistakes and see failure as a first attempt in learning. They will be resilient to draft and redraft with the support of specific feedback. We will achieve this through A curriculum that ensures that all children have the knowledge and skills to give and receive feedback to improve their work. Offering increased opportunities for children to engage in high quality clubs, sports, music, etc…to develop confidence and expertise Key Priority 3 Consistently high quality teaching Ambition for next 3 years Outstanding teaching and learning opportunities are consistently applied at WHCS We will achieve this through Project based learning that inspires pupils and staff. Key Priority 4 High quality teacher training Ambition for next 3 years For WHCS to be a partner school for Schools Direct teacher training. To work closely with Edgehill University to support student placements. We will achieve this through Successful application to the lead school for Schools Direct Key Priority 5 To become a beacon school for Read Write Inc Ambition for next 3 years For WHCS to become a model school for Read Write Inc. To be involved in training and supporting other schools who are beginning their RWI journey We will achieve this through Continually improved phonics screening results and end of key stage results. WHCS will continue to work closely with Ruth Miskin literacy and RWI to Key Priority 6 WHCS provision on offer to a wider community Ambition for next 3 years For WHCS to support the local community with the physical resources it can provide as well as services that can be open to the community We will achieve this through Facilities with our new building to aid sports or local community clubs.
