NAPLAN
The NAPLAN tests will be conducted over three days from 9 - 11 May 2017. For students in
Years 3 and 5, there are four tests covering numeracy, reading, writing and language
conventions (spelling, punctuation and grammar).
For students in Years 7 and 9, there are five tests including two tests in numeracy: a
calculator-allowed test and a non-calculator test.
NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM – LITERACY AND NUMERACY 2017
In May 2017 the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be completed
by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN has the support of all State and Territory Education
Ministers and will assess the literacy and numeracy skills of students across Australian schools.
The results of the tests will provide important information to schools about what each student can do,
and will be used to support teaching and learning programs. Parents will receive a report indicating their
child’s level of achievement. Each student’s level of achievement will be reported against the national
minimum standard.
Background information (student name, gender, date of birth, language background and Aboriginality)
will be collected as part of the National Assessment Program. This information is treated confidentially
and held securely to ensure that every student’s right to privacy is maintained.

MOTHER’S DAY
TEACHERS HAVE BEEN ASKED TO:
Mother’s Day Stall Thursday 11/5/17 May starting at 11:30-1:00pm
Please note:
 Keep all gifts in your room until collected by mums (probably collected Tuesday 9 May and
parents will use the OLD HALL to wrap the gifts in the OLD HALL on Tuesday afternoon.
 YOU MUST KEEP A RECORD OF GIFTS received. This will be collected on Tuesday as
the parents want to know if they have to buy extra gifts.
 Please make sure that all bags with gifts in them are kept in the rooms on Thursday 11 May.





A runner will inform you when to go to the hall- Rosa to organise
If you are on RFF, the teacher taking RFF will take the students to the NEW HALL, but I
have tried to avoid this
Please make sure that students have their money in their hand, envelope opened and ready
to give to the mums.
The following is a schedule:
Children are to buy one gift in the morning. At lunch the P&C will sell left over gifts to any
children who wish to buy a second gift for a grandmother etc. Please be reminded that if a
child brings 2 gifts they can buy 2 gifts but it MUST be marked off that they have brought 2
gifts on a class list.
ENDORSEMENT OF WH&S PLAN
This is located on the school website. We have endorsed it at our staff meeting with Gowrie,
Canteen and Afterschool present.
FLASHING 40 LIGHTS
We have been very fortunate to receive a School zone flashing light which alert motorists to
slow down when they approach a 40 km/h school zone. School zone flashing lights alert
drivers that they are entering a 40 km/h school zone and that they must slow down. Travelling
at 40 km/h reduces the risk of a crash and the severity of a crash if it occurs.School zone
flashing lights are one of many measures to improve the safety of children around school
zones. Other road safety measures at schools include school zone 40km/h signs, ‘dragon’s
teeth’ and painted ‘40’ road markings, which all help improve school zone visibility for drivers.
Be also aware that School zone flashing lights are programmed to operate during school zone
hours on publicly notified NSW school days. With school development days (also known as
student-free days) held during notified school days, government schools must accept
students on these days. The Department of Education advises that school development days
may also differ between schools.
NEW SCHOOL WEBSITE
http://www.clemtonpk-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/
One of the features of the new website is that it can be translated into over 100
languages.
COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS
It is important that parents are kept up to date with the notes and letters that are sent home
from school. Sometimes notes are kept in the bottom of bags and are not found until after the
payment due date has passed. To avoid this and to receive the notes and letters directly to
your e-mail you will need to subscribe through the “notes and newsletters” section of the
website. When you subscribe please indicate which “lists” you would like to subscribe to eg
Newsletter, Year 1 and Year 4. If you subscribed to the newsletter and your child’s class of
last year you will automatically be rolled over to the following year groups.
In addition to receiving the notes and letters by e-mail, on occasion there will be messages
that the school will need to send to parents eg PSSA being cancelled, an excursion returning
later than expected. To receive these messages you will need to download the School Enews
app. Once you download this app (including android) and type in Clemton Park you will be
able to receive the “push alerts” that the school sends.
Parent Online Payments
It is possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for
students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using
either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card. The payment process has been developed to
be very user friendly. It follows the format of many other online payment screens that you may
have used
The payment page is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting
$ Make a payment.
Items that can be paid include:
 Voluntary school contributions
 Subject contributions e.g. Mathletics, Reading Eggs, Home Reading, School Magazines.
 Excursions excursions e.g. Bathurst, Stage 3 Camp, Stage 2 Camp.
 Sport eg PSSA, Swimming Carnival, Athletics Carnival, Paul Kelly Cup
 Creative & Practical Arts
 Sales to Students used for anything purchased by a student that becomes the property of
the student;
 Other used for paying total amounts owed by a student e.g. complete student
invoice/statement of account.
When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:
 the students name, and
 class and reference number OR
 the students name, and
 date of birth.
These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held
within the payment system. There is also the option to enter the Student Registration Number
and Invoice number if you are aware of them, these are optional fields.
This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card
details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school. You
have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is
processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed. Details of the payments are passed daily
to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. As a receipt has been
issued from the payment page a further receipt will not be issued by the school. Each
permission note will have the following inclusion:
SPEECH PATHOLOGY PROGRAM - UPDATE
Clemton Park currently has an agreement with a local speech pathology clinic ‘Communicate
Speech Pathology’ where one of their therapists is able to work with children at the school
through what is called an EPC plan (otherwise known as a CDM plan).
Through the class and Learning Support Team, students have been identified as benefitting from
this service. These families have been sent a letter outlining the program. If you have received a
letter please let Mr Robinson know ASAP if you have been to your doctor and will be
participating in the program.
Students who return their EPC will be timetabled with our speech pathologist. As the program is
for five sessions students who are not timetabled in this current round of five weeks will be
scheduled in a subsequent round.
VOLUNTEERS
Parent volunteers are welcome to support the students and help in
the classroom. If you wish to volunteer you will need to complete
the Working With Children Check. This involves visiting the website
(www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au), clicking on “the working with
children check” link, completing the online registration as a
volunteer and then bringing a copy of this to the office. You will also
need to write down your date of birth on this copy so the school can
complete its verification process.

WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY FRIDAY 19 MAY 2017
Walk Safely to School Day will be held on Friday 19/5/17. It is an initiative that encourages
parents and carers to walk their children to school to promote regular exercise habits in young
Australians, lessen traffic congestion around schools and reduce pollution. So get your
walking shoes on and walk to school. This year we are meeting in two strategic places.
1. Yatama Park, Alfred St Clemton Park
2. Beaumont Park, corner of Homer St and Bexley Rd Kingsgrove
You will need to meet at these parks at 8:15am and walk your child to school. There will be
some staff members also at these parks to walk with the community. Parents are responsible
for their child/ren.
Walking to school every day is a great way to get your child to school. All local enrolments
should be able to do this. It will reduce traffic, car and increase safety around our school.
Please take the time to read the attached Road Safety pamphlet. (No excuses it is provided in
a variety of different languages)
