Somerset Women’s Cricket League 2016 Aims : The key focus of the SWCL is to play as many games of senior Female cricket as possible. To ensure players are playing at the most appropriate level (and challenged a little more when required/desired) To ensure every game provides an enjoyable experience for all involved. To do everything possible to encourage greater participation alongside retention of current players. League Format : The SWCL 2016 is not a “league” in the truest sense. It is really a vehicle for bringing teams together to enjoy playing cricket There is no requirement to play any one particular form of the game, duration, etc. Teams are encouraged to play the type of game which best suits them. There is no absolute requirement to play only registered/affiliated players. Teams are encouraged to play whoever they can/like in order to ensure games go ahead. Teams are encouraged to join together and share players whenever necessary in order to make games happen, play a different format, etc. There will be a very simple points system which encourages (1) playing a game – with all clubs who have provided players rewarded and (2) winning that game – with, again, all winning clubs rewarded. Playing Formats : Level 1 : Soft-ball pairs Windball or incrediball Nominally 8 or 10-a-side Bat in pairs (for up to 4 overs per pair) and lose 5 runs per wicket All bowl (if possible). Wides and no-balls (generously interpreted) = 2 runs plus no extra ball Try to ensure an even “skills match” between bowler and batter Level 2 : Hard-ball pairs As level 1 except using a cricket ball (+ [obviously] pads, helmets, etc.) Level 3 : 15and5 This is a hybrid game which is a mix of pair’s cricket and “normal” cricket an excellent bridge between the two formats. It seems a little complicated at first glance but it’s really not and it encourages all the right things! 10-a-side game (or if you play 8-a-side, it becomes 12and4) with a cricket ball. Batters bat in pairs for 3 overs each (=15 overs), losing 5 runs each time they are out. Any batter who is not out in their 3 overs can come back in again (in the same order) to bat for up to 5 more overs in a normal cricket style (ie. Out = out!) All fielders (except wk) bowl 2 overs at some stage, with 2 of those bowlers able to bowl the last 2 overs (ie. They get 3 overs) Level 4 : T20 Just normal cricket Recommend that batters retire at 30 (but can return at the end of the innings) Recommend that teams use at least 6 bowlers if possible. Max 4 overs per bowler. Recommend that every player bowls or bats (or WK) within the game – no-one bats at no.11 and doesn’t bowl! Level 5 : 25- 40 overs-per-side Normal cricket Recommend that batters retire at 50 (but can return at the end of the innings) Recommend at least 6 bowlers Recommend that every player bowls or bats (or WK) within the game – no-one bats at no.11 and doesn’t bowl! Points : Every team that fulfils a fixture gets 2 points. If players are borrowed from another club to make up a team, the club from which that player / those players come also get 2 points. (aim = to encourage participation/get games played) The winning team in that game gets 2 points. Each team is asked to nominate a player from the other team for “Player recognition Award” in a short gathering after the game. This could be the best player on the day but it could equally recognise someone who struggled and came through, a young player, a funny moment, whatever it maybe…… These players be recognised as the winner on league website & twitter.
