I can suggest why people try to act like the good Samaritan(L2) I can ask questions about who my neighbour is (L2) Possible content Possible Resources This unit is about the messages and lessons Jesus taught through a selection of parables. Make sure you tell the children where the parables can be found in the Bible. Talk to children about the word ‘parable’ and that this is the name for a story that Jesus told. Do pupils know any of Jesus’ parables? Choose a mixture of AT1 and AT2 objective and activities throughout the term. Explore the role of the shepherd. Explain that shepherds in Jesus’ time had to protect sheep from wild animals and robbers. Possible activities: What could this story be trying to tell us? Have you ever lost anything precious? I can suggest why the shepherd was looking for only one sheep (L2) I can talk confidently about what I value (L2) Make a ‘Lift the Flap’ book for younger children with a whole page devoted to the meaning. Assessment AT1 (Lost Coin) The Lost Coin (Luke 15 v 8-10) Explain that the coins in the story might have been on a special necklace which was important for a woman in Jesus’ time because of its value. It may have been a coin that was being saved to buy something special. Possible activities: Sequence a set of pictures to retell the story orally or with writing Go on a coin/precious object hunt. Create a double bubble or other type of thinking map/Venn diagram to show differences and similarities between this parable and the parable of the Lost Sheep Write or tell about your own precious item that you have at home and how you would feel if it was lost.
