SPORTS 3G playing surface – providing the arena to deliver growth Providing the arena to deliver growth Many sports clubs have seen the benefits that installing a new 3G sports pitch can bring – these include a steady more reliable income, protection from the challenges the winter weather can bring, and easier maintenance. 2 www.obriensportspitches.co.uk Providing the arena to deliver growth Facing your challenges Like many small businesses, sports clubs can often find that the amount of income they are generating makes it difficult to cover all their outgoings. This challenge often increases during the winter when expenses such as wages, taxes and stadium operating costs remain the same but attendance at matches tends to drop and severe weather conditions can mean they are postponed, or even cancelled, if the pitch is flooded or frozen. Then there’s the issues relating to the support that clubs can provide for local teams if getting access to affordable and quality facilities is hard. Because of this many clubs have no long-term security for the sites they use and often find they have to move around to different pitches, sometimes even within one season. This lack of stability means the teams suffer too – the players can’t train properly and coaches and managers are too often focused on worrying about securing somewhere to play rather than on developing strategies for success and growth. There is one easy way to address all of these issues and that’s working with an experienced and knowledgeable sports pitch specialist who can work with you to come up with the right solution for your club, your budget and your vision. www.obriensportspitches.co.uk 3 Providing the arena to deliver growth Going 3G The reason that so many clubs across Europe have already chosen to install a 3G artificial turf pitch is because they provide all the same qualities as a natural turf field while being longer lasting and easier to maintain. This means you can make the pitch available more often for club matches and training, and also for schools and the local community to use, so you can up your income and look at ways to grow secure in the knowledge that your pitch is not going to flood or freeze during the winter. Top clubs in Europe have already been won over but just in case you’re not convinced yet then we’ve got some facts and figure to show you just how good an investment a 3G synthetic sports pitch is. The examples we’ve used below show the potential usage and revenue you could expect to get when operating a full-size 3G artificial turf pitch. (NB: These are just an example and you should research local demand, existing facilities, potential for local school usage and the balance between club and commercial usage in your area). Recent projects we have worked on include a sand-dressed synthetic grass hockey pitch for Oswestry School in Shropshire. As well as the pitch we provided a spectator area, fencing, floodlighting, access roads, and a car park with bollard lighting. At Worthing Football Club, in our role as principal contractor, we constructed a new 60mm ACT Global 3G fully porous synthetic grass pitch that meets the requirements for playing 11 and 5/7 aside football matches, as well as the conditions of the FIFA Quality Concept. The club’s Chairman, George Dorwell, said: “When I took over as the club’s majority shareholder part of my vision included installing a new state-of-the-art 3G pitch that would help propel the club onto a higher level both on and off the field. O’Brien Sports understood the importance of the club’s strategy and approached the project in a very professional and pragmatic manner. The construction team were very meticulous in their work from day one and the end result – one of the highest standard playing surfaces in the league and also the region. The feedback from the fans, players and local community has been very positive and I am extremely optimistic about the coming season and the future.” For St Finbarr’s Sports and Social Club in Coventry we designed and built a 3G sports pitch that can be used for multiple purposes. The project involved earthworks drainage, sub base, fencing, lighting and surfacing for the sports club. Desso IDNA 3G was laid on the 70m x 40m pitch and the central dividing curtain we installed allows multiple 5-a-side games t be played at once. Dave Crowley, St Finbarr’s Sport Club Manager said: “We are really pleased with the new pitch O’Brien’s have constructed – it is by far one of the best pitches in Coventry. Many of our members have commented on the outstanding quality and feel of the pitch and feedback has been nothing but positive. O’Brien listened to our requirements and did not disappoint, the pitch is fantastic.” www.obriensportspitches.co.uk 7 Steve Hillman Email: [email protected] Mobile: 07967 016 815 www.obriensportspitches.co.uk SPORTS
