Our annual spring banquet was held at the Rainwater Convention Center.
This year we were pleased
to have Pastor Ken Smith as
our guest speaker. He is a
former chaplain for several
SEC football programs and
is FCA’s most sought after
speaker. He did an absolutely wonderful job, and
the only complaint was that
he didn’t have more time to
speak. As is our custom,
we presented the FCA Athlete of the Year award, and
this year the recipient was

Leigh Ellis of Valdosta High
School. We heard several
student testimonies from
athletes of Valdosta High
and Lowndes High. They
both did a fantastic job and
helped show the crowd
how vital FCA is in our
school systems. Coach Rob
Armstrong, Head Football
Coach of Berrien Co. High
School, also gave a testimony of what it’s like to be an
influence on his student
athletes.

Cook Co. FCA Banquet :
Dinner with the Living Legend
The Cook Co. FCA Banquet was held at the Lenox Baptist
church with over 300 people attending. We enjoyed a great
meal, wonderful music, testimonies from several students, and
a testimony from one of our coaches, Scott Ray. We had the
pleasure this year of having Bobby Bowden, the Living Legend,
as our featured speaker. As always, he was very entertaining,
and he shared about the FCA ministry in his life and career. He
was very gracious and spent time and energy signing footballs
and helmets for our table sponsors, who make the event possible. The proceeds from the banquet go to support the FCA
ministry in the area, a large part of which is getting athletes to
FCA summer camp. It is at camp that they are challenged to
give their lives to Christ. Each year we see many of our young
people surrender to Christ and return to campus to live out
their profession. This year we will send Cook High athletes to
football camp at GA Southern, softball camp at Brewton Parker College, boys’ basketball camp at Middle GA College, and
girls’ basketball camp at Tennessee Temple University. In addition, we will be sending one of our coaches and his wife to an
FCA marriage retreat.
Coach Bowden did a wonderful job of speaking.

Coaches’ Appreciation Supper
Each year we host a Coaches’ Appreciation Supper where we invite
all of our athletic coaches and feed
them a steak supper. As always,
spouses are invited, and this year
we had over 80 people in attendance. It is our chance to speak
words of encouragement to our
coaches and tell them how much
we appreciate the Godly influence
they have on our young people.
We had a number of volunteers
come and help with the event, and
we want to say thank you to them.
This year, we invited Coach Ray
Goff to come and speak to our
coaches. He spoke on some very
personal matters and challenged
each coach to guard themselves at
all times from temptations that are
common to all of us. He spoke of
his own failures and his road to
forgiveness and cautioned each
coach to be watchful and mindful of
what is around them. The message
was well-received, and we want to
thank Coach Goff for his openness
and honesty in taking on such a
sensitive subject. The event was
held again this year at the Griffin’s
Barn, and we want to thank them
for their hospitality.
Coach Goff spent time
ministering to coaches.
The coaches and their spouses
enjoyed a buffet style steak dinner.
Nationwide Golf Tournament
Jose and his wife do a great job every year.
Golfers enjoyed a delicious steak dinner.
We had the opportunity again this year to provide a supper for
about 40 or more golfers from the Nationwide Golf Tournament. Jose Alvarez is the FCA chaplain for the tour and follows
them each week. He ministers to the golfers, which includes a
weekly Bible study on Tuesday nights. Each year when they are
at Kinderlou, we provide a supper for them prior to the study.
This year was a great success, and the young golfers are especially grateful for the meal we provide. The supper was held at the
home of Chris Manwell who has been extremely generous to us
in opening up his home. Thank you, Chris, and thank you, Jose,
for holding forth the Gospel of our Lord before these young
athletes.

Upcoming Events: Camp 2012
Well, camp season is upon us, and we are excited to be
sending many of our athletes to camp. It is at camp that
they will work out in their sport, receive great training
from qualified clinicians, and compete with other athletes.
It is also at camp that they will hear the Gospel under several different pastors and speakers. This year we will send
area athletes to football camp, basketball camp, softball
camp, wrestling camp, and leadership camp. In addition, we
have several coaches who will be attending an FCA marriage retreat with their spouses. It is one of the ways FCA
invests in the lives of our coaches.
