Required parts and installations Procurements Price estimation Procurements and installation plannings Manpower Conclusion M. Paoluzzi September 14th - 2015 PSB - Required parts and installations • The modular system has the advantage of being mostly composed of standardized units: • • • • • • The 6-gaps cavity The RF amplifier 40V 200A power supply 30V 50A power supply Ancillary electronics and RF drivers PLC interlocks 24 units + 2 spare 144 units + 12 spares 144 units + 12 spares 24 units + 3 spares 24 units + 3 spares 24 units + 1 spares • Additional components will be: • Power distribution • Cooling water distribution • Cabling • Dedicated test place for parts acceptance, test and maintenance. M. Paoluzzi September 14th - 2015 PS - Required parts and installations • The damper system already exists in some parts and shares components with the PSB system: • The 6-gaps cavity already available (minor modifications required) • The RF amplifier 12 units + 6 spares • 40V 200A power supply 12 already available + 2 spares • 30V 50A power supply 1 unit + 1 spares • Ancillary electronics and RF drivers 2 units + 1 spare • PLC interlocks already available + 1 spare • New amplifiers docking station 1 unit • Radiation shielding opening system 1 unit • Additional components: • Power distribution • Cooling water distribution • Cabling • Test place shared with PSB. M. Paoluzzi September 14th - 2015 already available already available to be completed Procurements • ELENA RF system procurements (single gap, presently running) used for testing of production documentation procedures and price estimation. • All electronics delivered from industry as complete and tested units. • • • • • • • Power RF amplifiers Power supplies Ancillary electronics Vacuum chambers produced at CERN. All other mechanical parts produced in industry. Cavities assembled at CERN. Cabling and cooling installations from CERN service. M. Paoluzzi September 14th - 2015 Manpower Substantial support is required and arranged from CERN services: Drawing Office, Purchase Office, Cooling and Ventilation, Cabling, Central Workshop. Thanks to the modularity and the large number of parts provided by industry as “ready to install” devices the average manpower required from the RF Group can be limited: Engineer : Technical Engineer : Mechanical Technicians : Electronics Technicians : ≈ 1.9 FTE ≈ 2.0 FTE ≈ 1.6 FTE ≈ 4.3 FTE Manpower FTE [%] 200 180 160 140 120 100 80 60 40 20 0 Tech. Conclusion Thanks to the prototyping work done so far as well as the experience gained in the manufacturing and testing processes, the design finalization of the Finemet based PSB RF system and PS Longitudinal damper now requires a limited effort. The industrial procurement of all relevant items for the ELENA RF system represents a realistic test of the manufacturing and testing documentation as well as a validation of the purchasing procedures and prices. All this allowed establishing realistic price estimations and schedules: • the prices are compatible with the budgets allocated for the renovation programs. • the manpower can be allocated from the BE-IS section resources.
