The Kia Oval has been an essential component of English Cricket

Welcome
The Kia Oval has been an essential component of English Cricket and a major
stage for the international game since its inception in 1845. It is also an integral
part of the cultural, historic and urban fabric of Lambeth.
Today we are displaying our plans for
a limited extension of the OCS Stand,
which will raise our total capacity from
23,000 to 24,000. At a time when other
grounds are continuing to increase
their capacities, these new seats will
help us to remain a competitive venue
for international cricket.
The following displays explain how we
will deliver the expansion and why it is
needed.
Our Plans

We have looked at a range of options to expand our seating capacity and we
believe that this approach will allow us to meet our requirements whilst having
the least effect on our neighbours.
The new seating, to be used on major match days only,
will be provided by adding up to 10 additional rows
on either side of the OCS Stand, which will result in
some areas of the stand being raised in height by up to
5 metres and moving closer to the outer boundary of
the site. We will also create extra circulation space to
improve access around the Kia Oval and there will be a
shortening of the roof structure and some alterations to
exit gates in the boundary wall.
We are also seeking permission to install a permanent
replay screen near to the Alec Stewart Gate, so that
we will no longer need to put up and take down a
temporary screen each season.
The Pavilion
Our current redevelopment of the Pavilion is
making a significant visual improvement to the
ground, as well as enhancing the members’
facilities inside.
Work on this project is expected to be complete
by May.
If our proposals are approved, we will begin work
at the end of this season and the alterations will be
completed in time for the 2014 season.

In the south west area of the ground, opposite Stoddart
House and Shrewsbury House, a section of the OCS
Stand’s roof will be removed, improving the outlook
for some neighbouring properties. An attractive fabric
screen will be attached to the back of new seating
opposite Stoddart House. A new permanent replay
display will be installed towards the rear of the new
seating.

In the north east area of the ground, a section of the
existing OCS Stand roof will be removed. This will
improve the outlook for Oval Mansions. Existing barriers,
known as ball catchers, will be removed from the back
of current seating and reattached to the new seating.
