CONISTON vs. ALBION PARK
Saturday 28th April 2012
After missing a game last week due to wet weather, the boys were super
excited to play their next game against the green and white of Albion Park.
The game began with both teams working hard for possession, and the
defence of Cono looking very solid throughout the first half. Cono seemed to
be setting up some nice attacking moves, yet just couldn’t finish off.
Midway through the first half, Neo made a break down the flank and took a
shot from 20m out, only to hit the crossbar. Not long after Neo had another
break, set up by Thomas C, and this time he took his chance to score…Cono
up 1-0.
A superb defensive effort by Luca, Jonathan, Lochlan, and Adam kept Albion
Park to one shot coming into half time, which was saved by our keeper
Alexander.
The second half began with our two U9 players, Brandon and Jovan, having
their first run with our team. Both players played very well, and Brandon set
up Thomas I for a shot that just missed. Well-done boys!
As the game progressed, our midfield of Filip, Thomas and Go were doing a
great job, and it was very tense all round. Mid second half, Albion Park caught
our defence off guard and took their chance to score…1-1.
With 10 minutes to go, we started to go for a win. Jonathan moved up front to
accompany Bobby, Neo, and Thomas I. Chance after chance went astray,
either missing the goal or being saved by the goalie, and it seemed that it just
wasn’t our day. With 5 minutes to go…penalty to Cono. Adam stepped up to
take the penalty…but the keeper saved it! Better luck next time Adam!
The final score of 1-1 reflected an equal game, and once again the Cono U11
team have proved that they are matching it with the other division 1 teams.
