Hi All - Lewes Bridge View Junior Football Club

Match Report: 10th March 2013
Hi all,
So as bizarre weather engulfs us once again, here’s some football from the weekend. A
quick reminder that we continue to run girls’ training for u9s and 10s on a Friday between
6 and 7.

The u8s were away to Eastbourne Borough. We started well but with a
combination of missed chances and some great saves from the Borough keeper we
trailed 1-2 in a half we controlled, with our goal coming from the in-form Ben
McGillivray. The second half saw Borough score three quick goals back-to-back.
Our heads didn’t drop, however, and Ben was unplayable as he scored two more
goals to complete his hat trick. The home side had the last word as they scored to
finish the game 3-6 winners. We dominated the second game from start to finish
but failed to take our chances, resulting in a goalless draw. Particular praise for
Isaac Bolger- Paul who had his best game since joining the club and Luca Hawes
who looked a class act in midfield.
The u9s Black played Polegate against whom we had struggled against earlier in
the season. This time though we played with more pace and commitment and
some neat passing. The first game was tight at first as Polegate started brightly.
Keeper Ed Cooper was in fine form making some great saves. Slowly we took
control of the game and goals from Harvey (2), Tom (2), Sam and a fine goal from
Fred saw a 6-0 win. The second game was more even but two goals late in game by
Sam and Tom gave us the 2-0 victory.
The u10s played Premier Red at home. We were rarely out of the visitor’s half as
we pressed from the off. Our first goal came from Alfie Dobres’s sublime left foot
strike into the top corner. The ever threatening Joe Shersby-Wignall added two
more before half-time. A new look team took to the pitch in the second half but
our play was just as dominant. Ollie Lumsden scored two before a Premier
defender turned in Ollie’s flick from Felix Attfield-Davis’s corner to make it 6-0. The
second game was very similar with Premier defending well but eventually breaking
under Bridge View pressure. Felix grabbed our first from a tight angle before
Charlie Haggar made it two. Further goals followed in the second half as Eli
Harmer-Johnston and Joe added two more before Louis Salmon’s hard work was
repaid with our fifth as we won 5-0. Special mention to Silas Field for two
outstanding displays.

The u11s Black were at home against Southdown Rovers. A really good game saw us
produce some splendid passages of play. We were, however, caught out by the long
ball and sharp attacking of the visitors, who went into the break two up. We
deservedly pulled one back courtesy of a clean strike from Henry Carey. We pushed

hard for an equaliser and came close on numerous occasions. But with ten minutes
left on the clock, another long ball saw Southdown grab a third and all three points.
The u11s Orange faced league leaders Furnace Green Galaxy who had won 11 out of
12 games so far this season, scoring 88 goals in the process. Our performance of the
team was outstanding, particularly in the first half where we dominated and created
chances to match. Unfortunately, we didn’t take those chances and went into half
time only 1-0 up courtesy of an opportunistic Ewan Cullen strike. Furnace Green
increasingly came into the game in the second half, into the game putting more
pressure on us, however we coped well, with a now customary good defensive
performance. We still created chances and it was a very even. In the end though
Furnace Green were able to make their pressure tell and they scored twice in the last
10 minutes to steal the win 1-2

The Under 12s were away at Patcham United. This was the third time the teams
had played this season and Patcham were clearly determined not to let us achieve
a treble. The first half belonged to us with some good football being played.
Despite going behind to an early goal, it was no surprise when the equaliser came,
courtesy of striker, Alfie Haggar. The second half up the slope and against the
wind, saw Patcham in control and we were penned into our half for much of the
time. A 1-1 draw was a fair result on the day, even though we had two goals
disallowed. Another very good game from goalkeeper Neill Di Lucia and Tom
Cooklin battled tenaciously in midfield.
The u13s Black faced Eastbourne Town Blue at home. With the wind against us in
the first half, we struggled to make progress and the visitors took a two goal lead
into the break. A revitalised team went out for the second half and pinned
Eastbourne in their half. A foul on Josh Carvalho in the box led Ben Thomas to pull
one back and a great run and shot outside the box from Jem Tekin-Fisher made it
all square. At this point we looked like the most likely to go on and win the game
but a rare attack saw Town given a penalty and they duly took the lead. We piled
on the pressure but to no avail. With a minute to go we were awarded a corner
and keeper Logan Blinco came up, caused havoc in the box and got the flick on for
Max Durrant to equalise. A fine battling performance, exemplified by Ryan
Jackson’s performance. In a relatively clean game it was a surprise to see three
yellow cards awarded.
The u15s were slow off the mark against Coldean Colts and grateful to go into
break at 1-1, thanks to a clinical finish from Lucas Tredrea levelling things up. Our
midfield took control in the second half, with Chris, Ted, Nathan and Ned all
making attacking runs. Owen Moyle scored twice and Charlie Dawes tipped one
round the post to calm things down. Marley Kirtland sealed the win. 4-1
The u16s entertained Horley Town. We started poorly and paid the price when
Horley scored from their first corner. We eventually started to play our football
and Bryn Saunders equalised just before half time. In the second half Horley rarely
troubled our goal and it was only a matter of time before Nathan Roberts slotted
home number two, which was quickly followed by number three when Ben Earle
finished a great passing move to seal the win.
