Activities
– Highlight projects, programs and services that impact diverse
constituencies
– Distribute events across the community
• Spread the Message
– Develop a unique CD Week logo
– Publicize!
• Involve and Educate Others
– Mayor’s Office, City Council, HUD, Communications, Special
Events, Public Service, Parks and Recreation, the media and
corporate sponsors (banks especially)
– Encourage subrecipients/grantees to host their own events and
then partner/”piggy-back” with them
• Invite the Community and Have Fun!

The events was held on the 45th Anniversary of the
death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

2013 CD Week Events
Focus on: Community Outreach
• City staff presented information about Community Development
programs to the Council of Involved Neighborhoods. Neighborhood
leaders shared the impact that the programs had in their
communities.
• A clothing drive sponsored by City employees resulting in 37 boxes
of clothing donated to the Knox County Schools Clothing Center
• City staff and community members read to students at an inner-city
elementary school. The students then read to the volunteers.
• The highlight of the week was a Community Development Fair at
Ashley Nicole’s Dream Park, where CDBG funds had made the park
accessible. Over 250 people enjoyed free food and games. Many
community agencies had booths set up to highlight their programs.
