“It’s our team!” says Amy Gillis, MD when asked about the key to
her leadership success. She credits a great team with helping her
open South San Francisco’s new Radiation Oncology Department in
2009. And she credits great teamwork for the exceptional care her
department delivers.
Dr. Gillis leads an effort to offer advanced treatments to patients
throughout Northern California, including stereotactic radiosurgery,
which focuses very high doses of radiation on a small area of the body.
She and Marcy Kaufman, Department Administrator, also started a
“stop the line” policy, which gives everyone in her department the
authority to instantly step in to protect patient safety.
“Dr. Gillis has assembled an outstanding team,” says Dr. John Skerry,
South San Francisco’s Physician-in-Chief. “Together, they have built
Radiation Oncology into a regional service that’s a shining star for
our medical center.”
