a few highlights in maltese handball
• Social League (mixed) with 5 teams
played on a tennisl court at Uni, followed
by National Leagues played at De La Salle
College and St. Aloysius College – In 1996
the MHA had 7 registered men’s teams
with +/-100 players
• 5 Clubs and +/-400 registered active
players – over 34 teams in different
categories, all games are played at the
KMS USH
Beach Handball
• Beach Handball was introduced in 1996 at
Pretty Bay B’Bugia
• There is still much room for improvement
but these last years we have seen Beach
Handball tournaments organised very
professionally at Golden Bay and Pretty
Bay B’Bugia
• First National Team Appearance – 1st Edition of the
Men’s Challenge Trophy in 1999, in Cyprus

Today we have at least 6 national teams:
Men Senior (Euro Qualifiers, 2014)
Men U-23 (Challenge Trophy, 2011, Malta)
Boys U-16/U-17
Women Senior (Europeans 2013)
Women U-23 (Challenge Trophy, 2012, Bulgaria)
Girls U-16 & U-18 (Interamnia Cup, 2012, Italy)
• First Coaching Course – Olympic Solidarity
Level 1 in 2000, EHF Lecturer Dr. Wolfgang
Pollany.
• A good number of courses in Foundation, Level
1 and 2 have been organised by the MHA in
collaboration with the EHF over the past years.
In the coming months the MHA will move on to
sign the RINK Convention. A ‘Teaching Handball’
course in collaboration with the IHF is planned
for June 2012 and a Level 1 is also planned for
season 2012-2013.
