Over the centuries Christians have done many things to make Lent meaningful for their faith lives. They have spent extra time in devotion, fasting, and Bible reading. Some “give something up for Lent” to remind them of all that Jesus gave up for us. You are encouraged to find those things that make Lent a special time for you personally. At Mount Calvary we will offer these special activities to enhance your Lenten devotion: A reminder that there will be no flowers for the altar February 22nd through March 29th. 2015 Wednesday Lenten Luncheons March 4 Mt. Calvary March 11 Oakland UM March 18 Beulah UM March 25 Belmont UM April 1 No Luncheon during Holy Week The cost of the lunch is $6.00. We are also asking everyone to bring a canned good for the Walnut Grove Food Pantry. Luncheons will begin at noon with a 10-15 minute worship service to be planned by the host congregation’s minister or other designated person. The general format of worship is a hymn or two, scripture reading, meditation, and prayer. Lenten Challenge The Lenten challenge this year is good preparation for the Lenten Devotional Evenings. The challenge is to read the Gospel of Mark, preferably in one sitting. If you want to make it really interesting, try reading it out loud as it was originally intended.
