Welcome to Reception Thank you for coming this evening Reception staff… Ladybirds - Mrs Main, Mrs Roberts and Mrs Hudson Caterpillars - Miss Smith and Mrs Gregory Bumble Bees - Miss Prieur and Mrs Milne Beetles – Miss Meaker and Miss Old Jill Thornton • Jill works closely alongside the staff and children at Lilliput to support us with any speech and language needs • Coffee morning Aim of this evening… • Welcome you to Lilliput Infant School • Tell you about our systems and routines • Tell you about the kinds of things your children have been doing so far • Hopefully answer any questions you have! Coming in on our own • Please encourage the children to come in on their own - the children have more space and become independent • Please be prompt! Doors are opened at 8.35am. We lock the doors at 8.45 • Please do not enter the reception outside area unless it is raining • If you arrive after 8.45 please take your child straight to the office who will register them – please do not try to come in through any other door Going home • Please remember to leave the premises promptly once you have collected your child • If there are any changes to who is collecting your child please notify us by either writing a note that the child can bring in that morning or phoning the school office • Absence forms and going home forms are all available from outside the office and on the school website Getting dressed! • Please make sure your child brings a coat each day, we go outside whenever possible • For PE the children change fully into their PE kits independently!! Velcro trainers are really helpful! PE bags will be sent home at the end of each half term. • We also have an outside PE session so the children will need tracksuit bottoms • It would be helpful if they could put on their own coat and do it up. 30 coats during a 15 min play does not leave much time for playing! • Everything must be named for your sake and our sanity! Our school day... Morning jobs • Putting away reading folders, coats and lunchboxes (key rings) • Self-registration – putting up their photo to say they are in school • Start of day activities – computers, role-play, puzzles, writing, drawing etc Our school day... Discover & Explore •This is our child initiated learning •The children select an area of learning that they would like to work within •They put their names up on our Discover & Explore board •The children plan what to do and then select their own resources •As we work as a base the children can work in any Reception classroom Our school day Lunch • Hot school meals start Monday! • Packed lunches should contain healthy items and we ask for no flasks of hot food and no fizzy drinks • Please make sure you do not put too much food in your child’s lunchbox! • Please make sure there are no nuts – we have children in school with nut allergies Our school day... Number Fun • Whole class practise skills such as number recognition, ordering numbers, counting objects, addition and subtraction, shape recognition etc together • As with Letters and Sounds there is group and 1:1 work with teacher and TA according to individual needs and targets • Children apply this to their own learning through role-play, outside play, number and shape resources News • Each day a colour group shares their ‘news’ with the class • It can be useful to practise at home! • Occasionally they may wish to bring in a special item to talk about but we do not encourage the children to bring in toys • Photographs can help children remember what they want to say Foundation Stage Profile • We assess the children at the end of the year using the Foundation Stage Profile which is a statutory requirement • It involves ongoing observation and assessment throughout the year which create a picture of each child • Photos, independent work from home and school and observations made by staff form their portfolios • We welcome your involvement and will send further information about how you can help • We teach through a variety of fun topics throughout the year! Reading • We will start sending reading books home in October • Reading folders will go home every day but not necessarily with a new book • Each time we hear your child read we write a comment in their link book related to their targets (which are at the front of the link book). Once they have consistently met a target the teacher will date and initial it. You do not need to tick off these targets • Please also write a comment at home to let us know you have read with your child • The children will get two books each week and will read to an adult once a week Stars of the week • If your child comes home on a Friday with a sticker it means they have been the class star of the week!
