Second’s Visual Arts Ministry
Gallery Use Policy
Mission
Second Presbyterian’s Visual Arts Ministry is grounded in the belief that we are created in the image of
God and that both the arts and faith are manifestations of the same creative Spirit. We feature a wide
spectrum of artistic expressions to create community dialogue. We believe art connects us with those
different from ourselves and nurtures the relationship between the visual arts, those who create it and
God.
Overview
1. Rotating Art Gallery Opportunity – Our Visual Arts Ministry invites artists to submit to their art
to be exhibited in the Parlor Gallery or the Library Gallery. The Parlor Gallery and Library Gallery
are used by church members and the community, but also serve as a meeting space, event
space and reception area for various groups throughout the community and beyond.
2. Art on Oak Annual Art Show – Our newest endeavor is to provide an annual art show
experience. Spaces available to exhibit works of art include the following: Witherspoon Room,
Westminster Hall, the Parlor Gallery, and the Library Gallery.
Eligibility and Selection
Open to all artists, amateur and professional, working in two-dimensional media, including photography.
Wall mounted and free standing three-dimensional work will also be considered. The exhibit spaces will
serve as a public art space and artists should take all persons, including children, into consideration
when submitting artwork. The Visual Arts Ministry members reserve the right to determine the
appropriateness and suitability of various submissions.
Exhibit Space
1. The Parlor Gallery and the Library Gallery
All work is hung from a picture hanging system that allows for various types of attachments. The
Galleries are open to the public weekdays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m.1:00 p.m. on Sundays. The artist can reserve a day to install your art with the Church Operations
Manager. At the conclusion of the show, the artist will be responsible for taking down the
installation and transporting their work from the church.
2. Art on Oak Annual Art Show – The gallery spaces do have the picture hanging system as
indicated above, but for Westminster Hall and the Witherspoon Room artists will need to
provide easels (table and/or standing) or a free standing grid wall (or similar unit to hang
artwork). The church has a few units for hanging artwork which will be available on a first come
first basis.
Sales
Sales will be encouraged. It is not mandatory to have artworks for sale to be eligible
for an exhibit. No percentage on any sale will be taken. The Presbyterian Church
appreciates and supports local and regional artists. All sales will be handled by the
artist. If you wish, you may number your art and prepare a corresponding
information sheet with pricing and your contact information.
Reception
1. Parlor Gallery - The artist may hold a reception on the 2nd Friday of the month. Arrangements
must be made with the church operations manager at least one month in advance of the show
to reserve a date on the calendar. Food may be brought in. Drinks may be cooled in the
