* Please note that these breeds mature several weeks slower than the Red Sex-Link and they will not produce as many eggs, even in proper conditions.
All RTL are beak treated at day old to help prevent picking and egg breakage. Beak treatment still allows the hens to "scratch" feed or range.
Pullets will have been on 12 hours of light per day when you receive them. Increase j'; to 1 hour per week (in the morning) until you reach 16 hours
of light per day. Total hours of light per day and proper nutrition (no scratch or "green scraps") wil l bring the pullets into lay. Greens and scratch may
be given at a later age, however, if birds have access to these feed sources we recommend a vitamin supplement in the water to prevent a
nutritional deficiency. As well, if you plan to allow your pullets access to the outdoors, consider putting a "wormer" medication in the water (1 or 2
application days - available from your feed supplier).
New and used crates are available for purchase. WE DO NOT RENT OR LEND CRATES.
Green crates are an exclusive colour to Frey's Hatchery and are NOT SOLD under any circumstances. Frey's Hatchery cannot allow any of our
crates to be used for any other purpose than our Ready-to-Lay deliveries.

De livery:
Day-old poultry have nutrients from the egg , therefore, they DO NOT need food and water until you have them out of the box AND in the
proper temperature and conditions.
Started poultry need to be fed and watered as soon as possible after arrival at pick-up point (preferably within a few hours).
Proper Conditions:
The first weeks of life are extremely important for the health of your chicks. This time is critical for their immune system, organ and skeletal
growth. Improper conditions such as temperature, litter, and air quality can stunt their proper growth and have irreversible effects.
Use a HI/LO thermometer at the level of the chicks.
Have 3·4 inches of litter/bedding - this holds the heat from the infrared heat lamps (lamps DO NOT heat the air in your pen).
Vitamin Supplements : Available at your feed supplier
Vitamin supplements (powder mixed into water) can be used any time poultry are under stress:
-
high outside temperatures (especially for the White Rock breed)
large temperature fluctuations
poor air quality (when trying to maintain the proper temperature inside a pen or wet litter causing ammonia)
nutrient deficiencies (when poultry are allowed to forage they may develop a nutritional imbalance)
Antibiotic Water Supplements: Available at your feed supplier
These should only be used if you can determine clinical signs of disease (snicking, sneezing, wheezing or droopiness). Be aware that
what may appear as a symptom may in fact be the last stages of death, especially in poultry less than 1 week old (starve outs).
Proper Handling Procedures to Prevent Contamination:
Please be aware that all poultry, even chicks, are livestock and should be treated as such. Proper handling procedures will reduce or
eliminate the chance of bacterial contamination. A human hand can have hundreds of species and millions of individual bacteria on it, as
can poultry. Wash your hands with soap and water after handling poultry or any equipment that comes in contact with poultry.
